Sometimes bath salts contain aromas that are released by the infusion and create a relaxing atmosphere suitable for the body to regain strength and energy. This therapy has been used for centuries for its therapeutic and medicinal benefits.

Bath salts, sea or rock salts - what should you look out for?

Bath salts have only two variants that make them different. These are defined by the origin of the salt. There are two types of salts from which bath salts can be made and we explain each of them below.

Sea salt. Also known as bay salt or solar salt, it is produced through the evaporation of seawater. This type of salt has a large amount of minerals, between 60 and 80, depending on the region where it comes from. Most brands that distribute bath salts use sea salts in their products.

Rock salts. Rock salt is also known as rock salt or halite and is a mineral composed of sodium chloride. It can be found in different colours depending on the impurities with which it is mixed, such as iron or organic matter. This type of salt has less minerals than sea salt.

Benefits

It may seem that salt baths are only used to relax the body, but in reality they have many benefits. Most of them derive from the main component of the salts, magnesium, which is indispensable for the body. We explain them briefly.

#Relaxation. One of the main reasons why bath salts are used is that by immersing the body in hot water we automatically take it into a trance where the muscles, thanks to the minerals in the salts, eliminate toxins and relax. In this way, muscle contractions and arthritis symptoms can be relieved.

In addition, magnesium, which is present in the salts, is a suppressor of stress neurotransmitters and helps to raise serotonin levels in the brain, which creates a feeling of calmness. Finally, it should be added that the aromas contained in the bath salts create an aromatherapy atmosphere, through which the nervous system also relaxes.

Detoxification. The warm water opens the pores of the skin through which the minerals from the salts enter the body and replace old and heavy metals, such as ammonia, unique acid and even fats, as well as toxins that can be harmful to health and which are in our organism. In addition this helps our organs in charge of synthesising such compounds not to have to filter them out and this is a way of protecting them.

They moisturise and protect the skin. Thanks to the magnesium contained in bath salts, the skin stays moisturised for longer. This is due to the fact that this mineral retains water longer in the skin and gives greater elasticity to the tissues. In the same way this mineral acts on the skin disinfecting it and forming a protection that prevents bacteria and microbes from staying or being produced on the skin.

If you have a wound, a salt bath will help your skin to heal and heal faster. Some bath salts on the market specifically reinforce some of the benefits they offer by adding other natural components in the form of essential oils. In the "Aromas" factor we explain a little more.

The sea salts that make up this product can come from a specific place or region, which means that the amount and type of minerals they contain are different. Some of the salts you can find by provenance are:

Himalayan salt. Pink salt straight from the Himalayas. This is the purest salt in existence, 99% to be exact and this is due to the pressure in the mines where it is formed. It contains more than 84 minerals such as magnesium, iron, potassium, calcium and copper, so the positive effects on the body can be even greater.

Epsom salt. From England, from the town of Epsom, this salt is obtained from a saline spring. This salt is composed of magnesium and sulphate, minerals that work effectively in the body.

Salt from the Dead Sea. The salts from the Dead Sea contain 10 times more minerals than other sea salts. Some of them are not found in any other type of salt. You can also find high concentrations of magnesium, bromine, calcium and potassium. In addition to providing a deep state of relaxation, these salts have an incredible effect on the skin.

Scent

Aroma is essential in bath salts because of their aromatherapy function. However, not all bath salts on the market are scented. These are added to the salts by means of essential oils, which not only scent but also soften the skin. You can choose from a wide range of scents.

These are more inclined to be herbal because of their great relaxing effect. Some of them are lavender, geranium, mint, rose, orange, tea, rosemary, grapefruit, bergamot, arnica, eucalyptus, among others. Herbal essential oils, such as those mentioned above, as well as having a pleasant aroma, have healing and medicinal properties, so if you choose a product with a particular aroma you can be sure that the essential oil it contains will benefit you in other ways.
