The Best Bose Soundbar: Our Picks

Guide: Questions you should ask yourself before buying a Bose soundbar

What makes a Bose soundbar stand out?

The American company has been building various audio systems for over 50 years and has thus created a good name for itself and established it on the market. So (almost) everyone who has something to do with music knows the brand and what it stands for.

The high-quality products, such as the soundbar, are characterised by their high quality and stylish design. The rich sound makes it possible to play a wide variety of music.

How much does a Bose soundbar cost?

Now that the brand has established itself in a rather higher-priced segment, the prices for the soundbar are also somewhat higher. Depending on which soundbar you choose, you will also have to dig deeper into your pocket.

You can get a low-priced soundbar for around 200 euros, but the average is around 700 euros, and there are few upper limits. Here you can feel the price range of the speakers from Bose.

The following table shows the editors' favourites and their prices:

Art Price
Bose Soundbar 700 approx. 690€
Bose Solo 5 approx. 190€
Bose Soundtouch 30 approx. 400€

Is there an app for the Bose Soundbar?

For the Bose Smart Speeker, there is the possibility to control it via the Bose app, to play the music and to create different profiles. This opens up the different possibilities and you can customise your music preference and enjoyment specifically for you.

Bose Smart Speakers include the Bose Soundbar 500 and 700, so they can also be controlled with an app. The Soundtouch also has an app, but it is a bit older but still works without problems.

Are Bose soundbars portable?

Unfortunately not really. The Bose soundbar is more for the home. It needs to be plugged in and is also bulky to carry around the world. There are plenty of other speakers that are much more portable.

Unfortunately, the big speakers for a balanced sound are not meant for the next barbecue party.

Because with the built-in technology, you can support your TV with the necessary music and thus bring cinema sound into your home. All this technology also takes up some space in most cases, which is why you don't want to carry the usually somewhat heavier soundbars around.

Decision: What types of Bose soundbars are there and which one is right for you?

There are two types of Bose soundbars to choose from:

  • Bose Soundbar
  • Bose Solo

In addition to these two products, we have also compared another music box from Bose in our test, which could also be used as a soundbar under certain circumstances:

  • Bose Soundtouch

In the next few paragraphs, we will show you the advantages and disadvantages of these four products:

Bose Soundbar

The name says it all. The Bose Soundbar is currently the best soundbar from Bose, but unfortunately this is also reflected in the price. Nevertheless, it fulfils all the wishes you have for a soundbar.

  • Own app
  • Alexa and Co integrated
  • Multiroom capable
  • Few connection options
  • Mid and voices a little thin
  • Rather expensive

If you have the necessary money, you'll certainly get a good deal with the soundbar.

Bose Solo

The Bose Solo is a good entry-level model for which you don't have to dig too deep into your pocket and still get a good product. Unfortunately, the box doesn't offer some features that are especially important if you want to expand your system or turn it into a multi-room system.

  • Less expensive
  • Good price/performance ratio
  • Compact design
  • No app
  • No Alexa or other voice assistants
  • No Bluetooth

You should consider upgrading your system at some point and it might make sense to invest a little more now.

Bose Soundtouch

The Bose Soundtouch is a somewhat older model from Bose that doesn't always get the latest updates. Nevertheless, depending on the model, the Soundtouch offers good quality and can also be integrated into the multi-room system without any problems.

  • Own app
  • Bluetooth capable
  • Multiroom capable
  • Older series
  • No Alexa or other voice assistants
  • Few connections

Buying criteria: Use these factors to compare and rate Bose soundbars

Voice assistants

Various voice assistants such as Alexa or Siri are now built into many speakers from different manufacturers. This allows you to control your speakers easily with your voice.

Alexa is also built into the Soundbar 500 and the Soundbar 700. This enables a whole new way of operation and comfort, as you only have to speak to your speaker to change the volume or wish for the next song.

Wired vs. Wi-Fi

If you want to upgrade your speaker system one day, then you should consider how you want to connect the additional speakers to your system. You can do this with or without cables.

Wireless systems are usually called multi-room systems.

Both have their strengths and weaknesses. For example, Wi-Fi (or other wireless connections) are quicker to set up and you don't have to run cables. On the other hand, it is usually a bit more expensive and the quality is usually not as good.

Even though you will mainly connect your soundbar to the TV - for which you also need a connection in most cases - it is also practical to have other connections so that you can always listen to your music in the quality you are used to.

More connections = More possibilities

For example, you might eventually get the idea that you want to connect a record player to your soundbar, or a friend might come over and want to show you the latest hit from his star DJ. These are two of the many possibilities for which it is fine if you can plug something into your speaker without any problems.

If you have a friend over or you want to connect a device to your speaker yourself, Bluetooth is a very practical option. This way, everyone can share the latest songs and hits with the whole group in seconds.

This way, you can play your favourite songs without the hassle of cables, even from a distance, and you don't have to leave your mobile phone by the box. For this reason, you should consider whether a Bluetooth-enabled speaker would be an advantage for you.

Facts worth knowing about the Bose Soundbar

Can I switch on the Bose Soundbar automatically?

Since you usually only want to switch on the Bose Soundbar automatically when you want to use it to watch TV and don't want to switch on two things. For this reason, the question should really be, can you switch on a soundbar at the same time as the TV? The answer to this question is "yes".

Both the Soundbar 500 and the 700 can be synchronised with the TV. This makes it possible to switch on both devices at once with the push of a button. One way to do this is to use a universal remote control to control both devices at once.

How do I reset a Bose soundbar?

Depending on which Bose soundbar you are using, this process may be slightly different. The procedure described here is for the Bose Soundbar 500.

  • Press and hold the on/off button and the skip forward button on the remote control for five seconds.
  • The soundbar will reset. When the reset is complete, the light bar turns yellow.
  • Open the Bose Music app on your mobile device, add the soundbar to your Bose Music account and reconnect it to your network.

You can find further instructions directly on the Bose homepage.

Can I mount my Bose soundbar on the wall?

You can mount your Soundbar on the wall without any problems, the only thing you need is a wall mounting kit. However, you will have to buy this additionally from a dealer of your choice; there are also some differences here, which ultimately also influence the price.

After that, wall mounting should not be a problem. In most cases, you have to drill holes at the intended location and then you can fix the mount. Now simply hang up the box and enjoy the music.

In short: Just follow the instructions in the wall mounting kit and you can enjoy the music directly from your wall.
