What is the connection between carnosine and the ageing process?
Carnosine, or more scientifically L-carnosine, was discovered and researched in Russia at the beginning of the 1990s. For a long time it remained unknown until numerous other countries also carried out tests and confirmed the effect.
Carnosine could thus delay the cell death of senescent cells, extend their lifespan and even ensure their growth.
Some researchers even went so far as to claim, on the basis of their studies, that carnosine could even reverse the ageing process of the cells. A cell culture that was already subject to senescence received carnosine and thus benefited considerably compared to the other cell culture that did not receive carnosine.
The favoured cell culture showed improved cell division and symptoms of ageing partially disappeared. When it was retransferred, i.e. the carnosine was withdrawn, the signs of senescence reappeared.
So what does this mean for our youth?
Another Russian experiment on mice showed that those animals given carnosine had twice the chance of reaching their maximum lifespan. Untreated mice, on the other hand, lived only half as long.
Carnosine enormously reduced the typical signs of old age. The mice had a significantly younger appearance and a beautiful shiny coat well into old age. Only 5% of the untreated animals still showed such youthfulness in old age.
Can carnosine even work against cancer?
It is often circulated that carnosine also works against cancer. Although this has been partially proven in animal experiments, definitive scientific proof has yet to be found. Carnosine could inhibit the growth of cancer cells and also counteract chronic liver damage, according to the study results on animals.
What is known, however... Carnosine prevents age-related diseases such as cataracts, strokes, Alzheimer's disease, dementia, etc.. Carnosine also has a positive effect on neurological diseases and other cognitive disorders.
