Guide: Questions you should ask yourself before buying CBD capsules

What is CBD?

CBD, also known as cannabidiol, is a cannabinoid that comes from the plant cannabis, or hemp. In the plant itself, it is mainly found as CBD carboxylic acid. Unlike the notorious THC, CBD is neither psychoactive nor intoxicating, so it is legally marketed. In medical circles, it is often handled as a kind of remedy, as it has a positive effect on the body based on numerous tests. In addition, CBD is also often used in cosmetic products as it can improve the immune system of the skin. But it is not only on your skin that CBD has a positive effect, it is also recommended by doctors for some diseases such as cancer.

What are the different ways to take CBD?

CBD can be absorbed by your body in different ways. In cosmetics, you can usually find it in the form of a cream or ointment that you can apply to your skin. If you want to use CBD as a dietary supplement, you can find it either as an oil or in the form of capsules or pills.

Who is CBD suitable for?

CBD is used in different areas, as already mentioned. In cosmetics, for example, CBD is particularly interesting for people who suffer from skin problems, as the substance stimulates the proliferation of human skin cells. But it can also serve well in the case of inflammations.

Acne is one of many conditions CBD can help with. Its use as a lip balm is also extremely popular as it keeps the lips supple as well as moisturised for a longer period of time. It also effectively combats dry as well as chapped skin.

In short, CBD can help with pretty much all skin conditions, though scientific studies are not yet available in every area.

Does CBD help with mental illness?

CBD is particularly well known in medical circles as it has been shown to help with a variety of conditions. This is true for a number of physical diseases as well as mental health conditions. In the case of anxiety or panic attacks, for example, CBD has the special property of stimulating special receptors in the brain so that stress can be reduced and sleep can be achieved better. In addition, blood pressure and heart rate can be reduced, which benefits the body as well as the psyche. But the list can go on. People with compulsions, for example, find it easier to resist the compulsion because of these stimulated receptors, as its sensation is weakened.

Can CBD help with physical illnesses?

As far as the body is concerned, experts agree that CBD can strengthen some series of important bodily functions. Since many diseases such as allergies, migraines or asthma are due to an overreaction of the body, the substance has great potential; it strengthens the immune system. CBD has also shown a positive effect on serious diseases such as cancer.
Did you know that an American named Rick Simpson cured his skin cancer with homemade cannabis oil? However, his highly concentrated cannabis oil was not pure CBD oil but also had high THC levels. He dripped it onto the affected skin areas and put a plaster over it. According to his own statement, the lumps under the skin disappeared after only four days.

In summary, CBD can have a noticeably positive effect on people with mental illnesses. However, this also applies to people with cancer or asthma. Although the substance is not a miracle cure, it can weaken the respective disease.

In which dosages are CBD capsules available?

In general, CBD beginners should start small with the dosage, as every body can react differently to the substance. Even after creeping in, only take small steps and take your time to increase the dosage in intervals of several days. If there are problems with the dosage, you should always consult a doctor. The dosage of the capsules depends on the product you buy. There are capsules in 100 mg, 300 mg, but 1,000 or 1,500 mg are also very popular.

If you want to start small, you can buy capsules with a dose of 300 mg. This way, two to three capsules can be taken per day for a start and the dose can be better adjusted. However, the quantities given refer to the package size in each case. For example, a 100 mg package contains 10 capsules of 10 mg cannabidiol each. There are also high-dose CBD capsules with e.g. 1,500 mg, which contain 30 capsules with 50 mg CBD each.

An alternative dosage form or designation is the percentage value. For example, CBD capsules are offered in 5 % or 10 %, although this form is usually only used for oils. We have put together this table so that you can see at a glance which dosage is suitable for you. Nevertheless: Try a new dosage slowly and give your body time!

Level of experience Use Dosage Daily amount
Beginners Regular use, mild discomfort 100 mg, 300 mg 1-3 capsules
Advanced Occasional severe pain 1000 mg 1-3 capsules
Experienced Chronic severe pain 1500 mg As needed

They are just as effective for skin irritations and allergies. In addition, it helps against pain on the skin. CBD oils, on the other hand, are used directly as a food supplement, so the substance is thus absorbed directly by the body.

For this reason, it strengthens the body from the inside and helps to combat or alleviate numerous mental as well as physical illnesses. Buying criteria: You can use these factors to compare and evaluate CBD capsules

In the following, we will show you which criteria you can use to decide between the many CBD capsules on offer. The criteria you can use to distinguish between the variety of CBD capsules include:

  • Additives
  • THC value
  • Total amount
  • CBD content
  • Intake
  • Test values

In the following paragraphs, we will explain to you what is important in the individual criteria.

Additives

When it comes to additives, you need to pay attention to two things; additives that have a positive effect on your body and their quantities.

Additives Information
Nutrients Particularly common additives are certain building blocks that are essential for humans, such as vitamins, proteins or amino acids. These strengthen the immune system, among other things, and supplement the daily intake of these building blocks, which are mainly provided by the diet.
Capsule shell Furthermore, it is a good idea to keep an eye on the origin of the gelatine. This usually serves as a capsule shell and can be of plant or animal origin. For vegans, only products without animal gelatine are an option.

THC value

A factor that is always important when buying CBD tablets is the amount of THC. This substance is harmful to health in large quantities, as it is psychoactive. Products that you can easily buy in Germany must not contain a THC level higher than 0.2%. Anything above that must have a doctor's permission. At this low level, it is completely neutralised by the CDB, so there are no side effects from the THC.

If you want to do without THC altogether, there is the possibility of purchasing CBD without this substance. However, such products are still relatively rare.

Quantity

The amount is another criterion you should always keep in mind when looking for the right CBD capsules. Most products on the market have between 100 - 180 capsules. The larger the supply, the more long-term you can benefit from CBD without having to spend money on buying it again.

CBD content

Besides the amount, the proportion of CBD is extremely important, as the total amount of CBD in the product depends on both the amount of capsules and the proportion of the substance. Furthermore, a higher proportion means that you need to take fewer capsules per day to achieve the same effect.

CBD capsules come in different concentrations - the higher the proportion of CBD, the higher the effect of the capsule.

Intake

How many CBD capsules per day are advisable depends very much on the total amount of CBD contained in each capsule. However, it is always advisable for beginners to start with smaller amounts so that your body gets used to the substance. In practice, this means that you take a smaller number of capsules per day at the beginning.

When your body has become accustomed to the substance, the next step is to increase the dose or the number of capsules per day. Be aware, however, that you have to give your body enough time before you increase the dose again. Otherwise, the intake is associated with health risks.

Test values

To be sure that a product really does what it promises, it is best to look at the test values of the respective product. You can orientate yourself on two points: the certification and the test laboratory. As far as certification is concerned, every dealer should be able to present a certain Certificate of Analyses (COAs). If this is not the case, I strongly advise against it, as it gives you information about the quality of the product.

Test labs are another good place to get an accurate picture of the product. It is therefore best to look around for an independent laboratory so that you can get the most neutral assessment possible. In Austria, for example, there is the Arge Canna, which is currently the only independent working group that tests countless cannabis products.

How long has CBD been used?

CBD, which is extracted from hemp plants, has been used for a variety of purposes for over 10,000 years. Hemp was already considered an extremely important source of food, medicine and fibre. The plant was used to make clothing, paper, canvas and rope.

As early as around 2,800 BC, hemp fibre was produced from hemp, which was also used to make the first paper. But hemp also had a high value in medicine. For example, it was used to treat high blood pressure. However, Napoleon Bonaparte imposed a continental blockade during his reign, so hemp was replaced by cotton.

What about the cultivation of CBD?

While the cultivation of hemp was still considered illegal in Germany a few decades ago, about 50 hemp species are now permitted for cultivation. However, there is also a legal regulation in which the THC content may not be higher than 0.2 %, so that no intoxicating effects are possible.

In addition, every farmer must have a legal permit so that he can also legally cultivate the plant. As a rule, cultivation takes place between the spring months of April and May, while it is harvested between July and September.

Are there also side effects of CBD capsules?

CBD is highly valued in medicine, but the substance can also have some side effects, including for example:

  • Fatigue
  • low blood pressure
  • Drowsiness
  • increased tremor may occur in Parkinson's patients
  • dry mouth

However, since these side effects have not been comprehensively proven, many experts are of the opinion that cannabidiol is harmless to health. Moreover, it has been found that the substance has neither a toxic effect on non-transformed cells nor any other negative effects.
