The Best CBD Cream: Our Picks
Guide: Questions you should ask yourself before buying CBD cream
What is CBD cream?
CBD is particularly known for its pain-relieving, anti-inflammatory and calming properties. As an active ingredient, cannabidiol is found in various medicines in the form of tablets, creams and oils.
In contrast to THC, which is known for its intoxicating effects, CBD has no psychoactive effects. CBD is therefore not an intoxicant.
How is CBD cream made?
The most common and also most gentle method for industrial CBD extraction is theCO2 method. For home use, alcohol extraction is often used.
After the CBD has been extracted, it is mixed with oils or lipids in body care products and processed further. The oils serve as carriers, because CBD cannot easily act on the skin due to its crystal structure.
What is CBD cream suitable for?
CBD cream is particularly suitable for the following areas of application:
- Acne
- Psoriasis
- Neurodermatitis
- Joint pain
Acne
Acne can occur in adolescence but also in adults as late acne. Hormones, inflammations or a genetic predisposition are often the reasons.
CBD has anti-inflammatory properties and can therefore help heal and prevent acne.
CBD can also influence the production of sebum. Often, excessive sebum production causes clogged pores and pimples. CBD can regulate the possible sebum overproduction.
Psoriasis
Psoriasis is a skin disease in which the epidermis regenerates particularly quickly.
This leads to uncontrolled cell growth and so-called "scales" appear on the skin. In addition, the skin is usually reddened and inflamed.
The skin disease can be genetically predisposed or can develop over the years, e.g. through mechanical injuries to the skin. Patients often suffer psychologically and withdraw from their social environment.
CBD cream has proven to be particularly effective for the treatment of psoriasis. This is because it has particularly anti-inflammatory and above all moisturising properties.
The gamma-linoleic acid found in CBD also helps the healthy regeneration and cell renewal of the skin.
Neurodermatitis
Those who suffer from neurodermatitis have to fight with constantly reddened and itchy skin. In addition, there are often nodules and pustules.
What makes the disease even more unpleasant is that the symptoms occur in unpleasant parts of the body, such as the folds of the eyelids and the creases in the joints.
Similar to psoriasis, CBD cream moisturises the skin, inhibits inflammation and promotes healthy cell regeneration.
In addition to topicals, CBD can also be supported by oral intake in the form of CBD oil, capsules or globules for major problems.
Joint pain
The signs of joint inflammation are painful, reddened joints that often feel swollen. Rather, the joint function is impaired in those affected.
In medicine, this disease is called arthritis. Those affected have to take a lot of opiates for the pain and use creams to treat local pain. The painkillers that patients have to take usually have side effects on the whole body.
We have already told you about the anti-inflammatory properties of CBD creams in the previous paragraphs. In addition, CBD cream also prevents the formation of pro-inflammatory tissue hormones.
CBD, on the other hand, is a natural product and therefore has no side effects, making it a good supplementary treatment. Unlike some medicines, long-term use is also possible without any problems.
How much does CBD cream cost?
In general, however, you can find price differences between CBD creams, ointments/balms and pastes and gels and categorise them accordingly.
You can use the table below as a guide to estimate the price ranges.
Type | Price range |
---|---|
CBD Cream | 10-36€ |
CBD Ointment/Balm | 23-74€ |
CBD Paste | 130-219€ |
CBD Gel | 20-29€ |
The price differences can usually be justified by the higher quality of the ingredients, the CBD concentration, but also by the reputation of the manufacturer.
You may find CBD pastes much cheaper, but the quality of very cheap products is usually questionable.
What is the alternative to CBD cream?
- Shampoo
- Shower gels
- Creams and ointments
- Oils
- CBD Capsules
- Food and supplements
- CBD Drops
CBD shampoos and shower gels can be a further extension of skin care with CBD. CBD oils, on the other hand, can be taken both externally and orally.
Decision: What types of CBD cream are there and which one is right for you?
There are now many different types and compositions of CBD creams, depending on the concern. Every cream, ointment, balm and paste can be called a CBD cream.
Below, we further differentiate these types into the four main types of CBD cream. These are:
- CBD Cream
- CBD Ointment
- CBD Paste
- CBD Gel
What distinguishes CBD cream and what are its advantages and disadvantages?
CBD face cream is usually lighter in formulation than ointments and balms and can therefore be optimally used for daily facial care.
So if you want to include a CBD cream as a daily care product in your beauty routine, make sure that it is suitable as a day care.
Especially if you have acne-prone skin, you should avoid balms and ointments, as they are often thicker in consistency and can therefore increase the symptoms, as they make it harder for your skin to breathe.
In general, we can say that CBD face cream can be used as day and night care, as a make-up base and for general care.
The CBD contained in the cream can help you prevent wrinkles, treat acne and moisturise effectively.
Tip: In the wide range of CBD face creams, there are also face creams that are specially developed for acne, these then differ in their CBD content and in the other ingredients, e.g. the oils that are used as emulsifiers.
So when buying, pay attention to what your concern is and what effect you want to achieve with the application of the cream.
What are the characteristics of CBD ointment and what are its advantages and disadvantages?
When ointment is mixed with water or oil, it becomes a cream. An ointment is therefore more solid in consistency. Unlike creams, CBD ointments are not designed for simple daily care.
They are specifically designed to treat inflamed areas of the skin and promote healing and regeneration. Pastes are rather fat-rich emulsions that have a covering effect and remain on the skin for a longer time than creams.
This makes them particularly suitable for dry, cracked and itchy skin. So if you are dealing with more severe, acute skin problems, use an ointment instead of a cream.
However, you should avoid using an ointment on the face because of its high fat content, as it can cause pimples.
What distinguishes CBD paste and what are its advantages and disadvantages?
CBD paste is a novelty on the market compared to creams and ointments. Unlike an ointment, a paste is even firmer and has a thick consistency.
CBD ointments have a very high active ingredient content. There are CBD pastes with 50% CBD. Pastes are therefore only used locally on inflamed skin areas and are intended for targeted treatment.
The pastes are often applied with a syringe for the correct dosage. The pastes are intended for people with severe symptoms and are therefore correspondingly more concentrated.
On the contrary, the ingredients used are very high quality. The CBD pastes are therefore much more expensive than the ointments and creams.
What distinguishes CBD gel and what are its advantages and disadvantages?
Another type of CBD cream is the CBD gel. A gel is particularly light in texture and water-based. It is therefore particularly suitable for larger skin areas and for massaging affected skin areas.
CBD gels are mostly aimed at joint pain and acne treatment.
There are gels that have a cooling effect and gels that have a warming effect. The cooling gels have a refreshing effect, whereas the warming gels stimulate the blood circulation of the skin region and relax it.
The CBD gels are absorbed particularly quickly and provide fast relief especially for patients with arthritis.
Buying criteria: These are the factors you can use to compare and evaluate CBD creams
In the following, we would like to show you which factors you can use to compare and evaluate CBD creams. This will make it easier for you to decide whether a certain CBD cream is suitable for you or not.
In summary, these are
- CBD content
- Origin of CBD
- Ingredients
- Types of application
CBD content
In order for CBD creams to show their effect, you should make sure that the active ingredient is present in a certain amount. The active ingredient should therefore not be the last ingredient listed on the back of the packaging.
Many brands advertise CBD as an ingredient in their products. Not all of them contain enough CBD to have any effect at all.
Of course, the CBD content also plays a role in the purpose for which you buy the cream. A very high CBD content would neither be necessary nor suitable for day care.
To be on the safe side, you should start with smaller milligrams to test the reaction of your skin.
Origin of CBD
The CBD in the CBD cream should not only be present, but also of good quality. First of all, make sure that the CBD is extracted using methods that are gentle on the active ingredients, such as Co2 extraction.
In addition, the hemp plant whose flowers are used should be organically grown and free of harmful pesticides and chemical fertilisers.
Ingredients
Besides CBD, there are of course other ingredients in the cream. Always read the ingredients carefully before buying.
Creams that are free of preservatives, parabens and mineral oils are less likely to cause skin reactions and side effects during use.
If you have particularly sensitive skin or are allergic, you should try to use odourless creams. Natural wax should be used as the oil base.
Unlike other oils, this eliminates the risk of reacting to an ingredient and causing an unwanted reaction.
When the ingredients are listed on the products, usually only the technical terms are listed, which are incomprehensible to a layman. So don't be afraid to research the unknown ingredients before you buy. That way you will always know what you are buying.
Types of use
When buying CBD cream, also pay attention to the range of application. If you have more severe symptoms, you should use an ointment or a paste.
If you want to do something good for your skin and care for it, a CBD cream with a lower CBD content is sufficient.
Of course, an all-rounder is best, i.e. a CBD cream that you can use for many different skin areas and skin problems.
Facts worth knowing about CBD cream
Is CBD cream legal in Germany?
Unlike THC, which is known for its intoxicating effect and is generally known as a drug, CBD is not psychoactive and therefore legal in Germany.
So buying CBD cream is completely legal. The cream can also be prescribed by a doctor if necessary.
If you order CBD products from other countries, you should make sure that the THC content in the product is below 0.2%. In other countries, such as the USA, different guidelines apply than in Germany.
It is possible that a cream produced in the USA is not allowed in Germany and is subject to an import ban. So inform yourself beforehand.
What side effects can occur from using CBD cream?
CBD is known to have no side effects, at least in comparison to medicines. Unlike the oral intake of CBD, there are no known side effects with CBD cream.
However, if you do experience side effects from its use, you should stop using the cream first and talk to your doctor about it.
Can you make CBD cream yourself?
