We know you've decided to take a step forward with your woodworking, steel and plastics, and that you're stocking up on the best equipment to get there. Now that you are shopping for a circular saw, we have a lot of information for you.

Circular saws, as well as other electric cutting tools, function as automated assistants that help us to industrialise certain types of work at home or in our businesses. Their correct use ensures cleaner, more efficient and higher quality operations.

In our eagerness to help you get the one that best suits your needs, we have made a thorough investigation of the British market and prepared this article so that you know everything you need to know before deciding on a particular brand or type of circular saw.

  • A circular saw is a delicate device that should only be used by trained personnel and kept out of the reach of children. If you have children at home, it is best to think of a place in your home where you can keep it out of their reach.
  • Are you sure you need a circular saw? There are also mitre and table saws. There is no better type of saw than the one that perfectly suits your requirements, preferences and working style.
  • Make sure the equipment has a reliable warranty. Buying this type of equipment second-hand may not be optimal. Inquire about your supplier's return or repair policy.

The Best Circular Saws: Our Picks

Buying Guide

Circular saws are excellent tools, which have become popular because they are safe and effective. But they are specific products that should not be purchased in ignorance. It is useful that, even if you do not know this tool in depth, you at least know the basics to make an informed decision.

What is a circular saw and what are its advantages?

A circular saw is a power-driven electric tool designed to saw materials such as wood, plastic, and certain types of metals, either lengthwise or crosswise. The type of material you can cut will depend on the type of blade you use and its characteristics (hardness, design, number of teeth, etc.).

The machine's motor rotates the blade at a certain number of revolutions per minute (RPM), so that the traction of the cutting disc on the material results in precise and continuous incisions. When using it, you will feel complete control over the finish of the workpiece. Be sure to wear protective eyewear while working.

"Efficiency is anything that adds up"
-Bruce Lee

The blade design traps the material fragments and dust generated during cutting, extracting them with its teeth with each rotation of the blade. This prevents overheating of the surface and decreases the resistance of the material considerably. Say goodbye to your hand saw and effort!

The circular saw is considered a basic tool in any carpentry, mechanical and general construction workshop. Its manoeuvrability and speed are essential to increase efficiency in the execution of cutting jobs, very common in all types of industries.

  • Significant reduction of physical effort
  • Their prices are accessible
  • Faster execution of cuts
  • Intuitive use and easy to explain
  • The weight of the tool can be exhausting
  • Vibration generates discomfort
  • There is a high risk of accidents due to inappropriate use
  • Components must be replaced

Circular saws: with or without depth regulator - what should you pay attention to?

Circular saws can include, among their functions, a depth regulator and a cutting angle regulator that vary the sawing process. The use of these functions will depend on the type of use you intend to make of it.

Circular saws with regulator. These are equipped with a system that allows you to adjust and customise two very important aspects: the thickness of the cut and the angle at which it is cut. By being able to modify these two elements, more precise and effective cuts can be achieved.

Circular saws without regulator. These do not have a system that allows customisation of the cuts, which at first sight seems to be a limitation. However, it must be considered that in most cases the cuts offered by these saws are more than effective, and the costs of these saws are lower than those of the saws with regulator.

With regulator Without regulator
Thickness Allows you to adjust the penetration of the cut and the resulting thickness The cut thickness is predetermined between 50 and 75 mm
Cutting angle Will allow you to make cuts in the range of 45 to 135 degrees Fixed cutting angle of 90 degrees
Versatility Will give you a greater number of finishes Easier results
Costs Slightly more expensive Slight savings

In addition to the advantages and disadvantages, consider: Do you feel that a small financial difference would be reason enough to stop enjoying the functionality of the depth and angle adjuster? If you are absolutely sure that you will only need 90-degree cuts and the right thickness, it will be worth the savings.

Buying criteria: compare and rate different types of circular saws

When purchasing one of these machines, you should consider the following variables:

  • Engine Power
  • Debris guard
  • Weight and length of power cable

Engine Power - Revolutions Per Minute (RPM)

The number of rotations of the disc per minute will indicate how fast the discs will be made. Erroneously, this value is associated with the performance of the disc, but the truth is that the higher the speed, the wear increases proportionally.

Make sure you buy an electric saw that has a motor capable of spinning the blade at least 4,500 times per minute. That way you'll be working with the industry standard. There are some with 6,000 RPM or more, but they tend to be significantly more expensive than the ones we present today.

Waste guard

The waste guard is the section of the tool that surrounds the blade, hugging it to protect the operator from wood shavings or other material that are dislodged from the blade teeth as the blade rotates.

Avoid purchasing a cutting tool that does not protect you from the tiny pieces of material that can cause damage to your vision and skin.

Weight and length of power cord

A circular saw with such a powerful motor cannot weigh less than 3.5Kg. Any weight less than that calls into question the quality of the tool. Be sure to check the specifications before you buy it.

On the other hand, a 1m long power cable may be too short to guarantee comfort when doing the job. Make sure the machine has a power socket that is at least 2m long.
