Quality

The quality promise plays a major role with colloidal gold, as it is a precious metal that is not simply added to the body under normal circumstances. It is therefore important that the manufacturer is trustworthy.

By choosing the right colloidal gold for you, you can also save money and ensure that you do not give your body anything it does not need. Therefore, always make sure that the quality is high and, if necessary, ask to see the manufacturer's certificates.

Concentration

Colloidal gold starts at a concentration of 5 ppm (parts per million) and can be sold up to 100 or 200 ppm.

Depending on the concentration, the actual gold content per ml is higher. Thus, the effect of the product increases accordingly and the dosage must also be adjusted accordingly.

Composition

Besides the chemical formula for the production of colloidal gold, some manufacturers also mix other additives into their product. The rule here is: the less the better, as some minerals or elements can inhibit each other or even have a counterproductive and opposite effect.

So if you see other ingredients on the package insert of the product besides the substances needed for the production of colloidal gold, you should rather go for one that contains only tetrachloridogoldic acid, citric acid and phosphorus.

Particle size

Besides the concentration as mentioned above, the particle size also plays a role in colloidal gold. The finer they are, the easier it is for the body to absorb and metabolise or process them.

So when buying the product, also look for a low particle size, preferably stated in nano.

Certification

The quality of a product is usually accompanied by a certificate. For colloidal gold, it is best to look for the well-known ISO or AU certification.

What is colloidal gold and how does it work?

Colloidal gold is not a medicine that has been tested by doctors or proven by sufficient studies. Therefore, the use of colloidal gold is merely an alternative or supplement to conventional medicines or food supplements.

The so-called "Health Claim Act" provides that if there is insufficient evidence about the effect of a product, the formulation must be adapted accordingly in order to be able to demonstrate the necessary transparency. (1)

It is a complementary healing method.

Colloidal gold is gold dissolved in tiny nanoparticles in a distilled liquid. It has an orange to deep red colour.

In addition to its use in biochemistry, colloidal gold is now also used for healing purposes, although the necessary study evidence is lacking here to assume a safe efficacy. (2)

However, there are approaches in the treatment of rheumatism, cancer or mental illnesses. (1, 2)

Colloidal gold as an active substance carrier

One property of colloidal gold is its ability to act as a drug carrier. The gold particles can enhance the effect of medicines. With this property, they are used as adjuvants in vaccines. (3)

They also help to ensure that the specific pharmaceutical drugs reach their exact destination of action and do not cause any damage there in the cells. (4)

In connection with the vaccine-enhancing attributes, colloidal gold can also be used in cancer therapy for vaccine research purposes.

Within cancer research, scientists are working on cancer immunotherapy to develop a vaccine against tumour cells. Here, the colloidal gold can act as a carrier of the antigens contained in the vaccine and transport them precisely to the cells affected with the cancer.(5)

This property of colloidal gold can be used not only in the development of vaccines against cancer, but also for other diseases such as HIV (6, 7)

Anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects

Colloidal gold can also be used in the treatment of inflammatory symptoms in muscles and joints, such as arthrosis or rheumatoid arthritis. The gold has an anti-inflammatory effect. (8, 9, 10)

However, this treatment method is not recommended in the first instance. The use of colloidal gold occurs in patients with drug intolerance or other exclusion factors when no other therapy has been effective so far.

This is partly due to the toxic effect of gold. In one third of RA patients (rheumatoid arthritis), itching or other dermal manifestations occur as a result of treatment with colloidal gold, up to and including other diseases affecting the skin and mucous membranes or even the excessive excretion of proteins in the urine. Besides its anti-inflammatory effect, colloidal gold also has an antioxidant effect that can have a positive impact on the insulin sensitivity of diabetics. (11)

Effect on the immune system

The antioxidant effect of colloidal gold and its antigens have a stimulating effect on the mitochondria. The cell building blocks that are responsible for cellular respiration and play a decisive role in health.

In addition, colloidal gold binds directly to protein building blocks, or DNA on them, through its surface potential and can thus form a stronger immune system through faster cell growth.

In addition, colloidal gold releases certain messenger substances in the body, which also leads to a strengthened immune defence. (12)

When and for whom is it useful to take colloidal gold?

If you listen to the recommendations of alternative medicine, taking colloidal gold can be useful for people with a wide variety of problems.

Some of the recommended uses include rheumatism, arthritis, acne, gout, intestinal diseases and inflammation, dermal diseases, MS, loss of libido, sleep disorders, but also mental illnesses such as burn-out and depression. (13)

Since the clinical studies on the effect of colloidal gold are not yet conclusive, a guaranteed improvement of the symptoms of the disease or a recovery is not guaranteed.

How is colloidal gold made?

Colloidal gold is made by combining tetrachloridogoldic acid with citric acid. If the colloid is to act in ethereal solution, it is mixed with white phosphorus. For the aqueous solution, distilled water is used.

What are the applications of colloidal gold?

Externally

When applied externally, colloidal gold has a disinfecting effect. In acute wounds, this has the additional advantage that they are not only healed quickly, but also treated and cleaned professionally at the same time.

Intravenously

It is also possible to administer colloidal gold intravenously via an injection. In this case, however, the care of a trained person is indispensable, as the amount must be controlled precisely and the injection must be carried out by a specialist.

How should colloidal gold be dosed?

Colloidal gold is offered in the form of a liquid for ingestion or application. The dosage varies depending on the form of application.

When taking it orally, it is essential to ensure that the liquid with the gold particles is not consumed in large quantities. This is because the liquid is distilled water, which can lead to water intoxication in the body if consumed in excessive quantities.

There are no minerals or salts in distilled water. Thus, when consumed, an imbalance can occur in the cells, causing a negative pressure, which in the worst case can lead to a stroke. (1)

When using distilled water orally, it is therefore important to always add some salt to it.

For external application on the skin, there is no specific dosage to be observed.

What alternatives are there to colloidal gold?

Besides colloidal gold, other metals such as silver or copper are also offered in colloidal liquid form.

However, these two have other forms of action and special properties that must be taken into account when taking them.

Colloidal gold is therefore unique in its effect.

What are the side effects of colloidal gold?

Due to the fact that there are few conclusive study results on the effectiveness of colloidal gold and the properties for medical treatment are not yet recognised, there are also few statements on the side effects of colloidal gold.

Only as described above, one should pay attention to a sufficient salt supply during the internal application, as a protection against water intoxication. However, this is due to the distilled water and less to the effect of the gold.
