There are also different shades of copper available, from pastel copper, copper blonde, bright copper to copper brown.

Hairstyles for Copper Hair

Short hair

The intense hair colour is especially suitable for short hair. Copper hair colour needs regular treatment, so if you have a long mane it could be really time-consuming, costly and high-maintenance.

Medium length hair

The intense and eye-catching hair colour looks especially good on simple hairstyles and therefore brings the tint more to the fore. Especially the classic bob hairstyle is a good choice that looks experimental with hair colouring.

You can show off your hairstyle better with curls because they increase the radiance of the copper.

Did you know that red hair is extremely rare?

Only about two percent of the world's population has naturally red hair. Red-haired women are considered mystical, sexy and extraordinary, but one should not forget the medieval witch craze.

What do you have to look out for when dyeing?

If you want to own copper hair, start with an easily washable tint or highlights, because that's how you'll know if the tone is to your liking.

Keep in mind that once you have a permanent red tint in your hair, it's hard to get rid of it.

For a natural colour result, choose a shade that is at most lighter or darker than your natural hair colour.

Especially people with brown hair need to bleach their hair before they dye their hair red, which means they need to remove the colour pigments from their hair. But copper highlights in brown hair can make the hair look more vibrant.

How do I dye my hair copper?

Before you dye your hair copper, there are a few things you should consider after the current starting tone of your hair. The procedure varies depending on the colour of your hair.

Hair colour Application
From blonde to copper When colouring your blonde mane in copper, there are usually no problems, as blonde hair absorbs the red pigments quickly. Feel free to dye your copper hair yourself or try a tint.
From brown to copper If your brown mane is lighter than the desired shade of red, there should be no problems with colouring. However, if you have a dark brown shade, you should lighten your hair as mentioned above.
From black to copper Changing from a black hair colour to a copper red hair colour takes a lot of effort. It is the same as with a dark hair colour. You need to lighten your hair before you start colouring it. But it's best to consult an expert.

How much does copper hair colour cost?

Copper hair dye can be found for as little as €10 and is very effective. However, a cheap product indicates inferior quality.

The price range is from 5€ to 30€.

Copper hair colour is available from different manufacturers. Depending on the manufacturer, the prices also vary. When buying, it is important to remember that the hair colour should be used at least once a month.

Buying criteria: These are the factors you can use to compare and evaluate copper hair colour

In the following, we would like to show you which factors you can use to compare and evaluate copper hair colour. This will make it easier for you to decide whether a certain copper hair colour is suitable for you or not.

In summary, these are:

  • Skin type
  • Tinting or dyeing
  • Ammonia
  • Packing

In the following paragraphs you can read about the individual buying criteria and how you can classify them.

Skin type

If you want to dye your hair copper, you should match the colour shades to your natural hair colour, eye colour and complexion.

For fair skin types with green, blue or speckled eyes, copper hair colours are generally very suitable.

For people with blonde hair, fair skin and blue or green eyes, light copper shades are very ideal.

The copper hair colour should match your skin tone, eyebrows and eye colour so that the colours harmonise with each other. (Image source: / pezibear)

If your skin has a yellowish, peachy or golden undertone, then the warm copper-red tones harmonise very well.

If you have an olive complexion, we advise you to go to a talented colour expert, otherwise it can look like a wig.

Eyebrows also play a big role in visual perception. We advise you not to colour your eyebrows. They should look natural, neither too dark nor too light. With a little make-up you can add a slight copper shimmer.

Tinting or dyeing

Generally, a distinction is made between synthetic hair dyes and natural hair dyes. Synthetic hair dyes are mostly available in the shops. These are divided into the following categories:

Type Description
Tinting With tinting you can refresh your existing hair colour. The tint washes out completely within six to eight weeks, so there is no build-up. The tint does not harm the hair, as it only penetrates the outside of the hair. However, the coverage is not great and cannot cover grey hair.
Permanent colouring If you want a significant change, then you should go for a permanent colour. Here, the colour gets inside the hair and sets there. Permanent colour doesn't wash out, it grows out over time, which also creates a build-up.

Ammonia is a substance that is contained in hair dyes. The effect of ammonia has advantages and disadvantages.

With the ammonia, the colour pigments of the colouring reach the inside of the hair. An alkalising agent opens the hair's cuticle and thus helps to achieve the hair colour of your dreams. When the scales open, the work of the ammonia is also done.

The substance has a short-term effect on our hair.

Ammonia also has its disadvantages. You should then use a hair colour without ammonia if you want a new undertone or a little more shine in your hair.

The substitutes do not have as strong an effect and therefore cannot be deeply anchored in the hair. This also leads to the tone washing out every time you shampoo.

Copper hair colours are available in different packaging. In the drugstores you can find the hair colours in a set.

Some packages contain extra care balm, protection serum or conditioner. The exact ingredients can be found on the packaging.

You can also buy the individual colours in a tube, whereby this type of packaging usually contains a permanent colour.

Facts worth knowing about copper hair colour

Dye your hair yourself

If you have blonde hair, there is nothing to stop you from colouring your hair yourself. But if you have dark hair and need to bleach it first, it's better to go to an expert.

1. Step: Preparation

It's best not to wash your hair the day before, as the grease allows the colour to penetrate the hair better. Put on clothes that can get dirty and put a towel on your shoulder.

Dye your hair in the bathroom and prepare it properly so that nothing goes wrong. Have paper towels ready to act immediately against splashes and stains.

Tip: Apply Vaseline to your forehead, temples or ears to prevent the colour from sticking.

2. Step: Dye

Before you start colouring, first comb your hair well and divide it into strands and pin them with clips.

If this is your first time colouring your hair with this shade, test it on one strand first.

Put on gloves and mix the product as described in the package leaflet.

Then take a partitioned strand and work it in properly from roots to tips and colour every other strand in the same way. If you want a more intense result, you can leave the colour on for longer.

Insider tip: You will get a better effect if you cover the entire head with a bonnet of aluminium foil. The aluminium foil warms up the hair and the colour can penetrate better.

3. Step: Wash out

Note that you should only wash the colour out with clear water without shampoo. When the colour is completely washed out of your hair, massage in the conditioner that is included.

The conditioner ensures that the colour is sealed in. To avoid further stressing your hair after colouring, let it air dry.

If you have shoulder-length hair or longer, you should use two colouring packs.

Care of copper hair colour

Copper coloured hair loses its radiance quickly. Red pigments are smaller than blonde or brown hair and therefore wash out easily with every wash.

To prolong the life of your hair, use shampoos and care products that are specially formulated for coloured hair or red hair.

Hair care products with red pigments add a colour shine to the head.

We also recommend using heat protection before blow-drying and a sunscreen spray before sunbathing.

The tips should be cut regularly. As red hair usually contrasts strongly with clothes, broken hair will quickly become noticeable.

Finally, you can use a hair oil for a shiny finish.

Make-up tips for copper hair colours

Red hair gives you a delicate, elfin appearance or makes you look strong and confident.

However, copper hair colour is sophisticated and requires balanced make-up. We tell you which make-up is best.

If you have fair skin and a clear complexion, you can do without foundation. If your skin tends to be red and uneven, use a foundation with medium coverage.

Eye make-up

Warm eye shadow shades such as gold, copper, cinnamon, rust or nutmeg are suitable for copper-red hair. If you want a sophisticated look, go for cool colours like plum, petrol or turquoise.

If you want to go for subtle accents, use only one eyeliner. Lighter types also have lighter lashes.

Add a mascara for a radiant look and complete your eye make-up.

When applying make-up to the eyebrows, do not draw them in too darkly, as the contrast to the pale skin is very strong and it can look unnatural. Choose eyebrow pencils or powders with brown-red tones.

Natural tones or nude shades such as coral, peach or rosé will bring out the best in your mane

Ombre effect with copper lengths

Ombre is best for women who don't want to change their natural hair colour, but still want copper shades.

The hair lengths are coloured in a lighter shade at a distance of about 10 centimetres from the hairline. In this way, the roots are preserved and the hair length is tinted in a warm and soft copper-brown.
