Fishing Chair: Our Selection
Guide: Questions you should ask yourself before buying a fishing chair
If you want to buy a fishing chair, you can find your chair for these uses in the angling market:
- Fishing stool for fishing at the lake or river
- Fishing stool for camping in the forest
- Stool for the flea market
- Seat in the garden
Wherever you are, you can always make good use of such a chair. Whether it's a nice sunny day at the flea market or just fishing at the lake. You can use this chair for almost any purpose and put it in any place.
The fishing stool usually has four mud feet, which prevent it from sinking into the wet ground. It is therefore also popular for fishing on a shore area.
What material is a fishing stool made of?
If you want to clean polyester, it would be an advantage to check the maximum washing temperature first. If you only have small stains on your chair, you can use a simple dishwashing detergent. You can also just use a stain spray for slightly deeper stains.
How much does a fishing stool cost?
What you have to bear in mind, however, is that with the cheap models you usually only get the basic equipment. With the more expensive models, you usually get very good padding with an adjustable reclining angle with an adjustment wheel.
Almost every fishing chair has an adjustment wheel, which is used to set your backrest correctly. However, the cheaper models usually do not have this function.
How much does a fishing chair weigh?
You also have to bear in mind that you can certainly choose some accessories, which also changes the weight. The fishing chair not only has a more comfortable seat, but also a good grip on the ground, which prevents it from sinking into the lake shore.
Decision: What types of fishing chairs are there and which one is right for you?
- Carp chair
- Folding chair
- Tripod stool
These three types differ from each other mainly in their shape, the type of upholstery, the size and their weight. Depending on where your next fishing trip takes you, a particular fishing chair is best suited for you.
The longer you stay at a fishing spot, the more comfortable the chair should be. If you need to change locations frequently, lighter equipment is preferable.
In the following section, we would like to help you find the right seat for your fishing trip. We will present the above-mentioned fishing chairs in more detail and explain their advantages and disadvantages.
How does a carp chair work and what are its advantages and disadvantages?
The carp chair is called a "carp chair" in English. In the German-speaking fishing scene, too, the term carp chair is usually used. If you plan to fish in one place for a long time, this fishing chair is the best choice for you.
This fishing chair is characterised by its comfort and high stability. It happens that carp chairs are more and more common at festivals or even barbecues.
A special feature are the mud feet. These are small plates that are attached to the ends of the feet. These ensure that you sit stably and don't sink into soft ground.
The height of the feet can also be adjusted. This allows you to adjust your fishing chair to the optimum position even on uneven ground or on slight to medium slopes. You can also adjust the backrest with aggregation screws. This allows you to choose between a relaxing and a sitting position.
Another advantage of the carp chairs is the extremely good and thick padding. This ensures that you feel at home in your living room while fishing and protects your body from wind and cold. The cover is usually made of nylon, polyester or neoprene and is therefore easy to clean.
There are also carp chairs with cup holders. However, these are available as accessories and can easily be mounted on the frame of your chair.
However, comfort and stability are compromised as carp chairs are relatively heavy and have a larger pack size than the alternatives. If you plan to change places frequently when fishing, you should opt for a lighter chair. Compared to a folding chair, this can be double or triple the price.
How does a folding chair work and what are its advantages and disadvantages?
Some fishing brands offer cheaper models as fishing chairs in addition to the carp chair. These are folding chairs or classic camping chairs.
These are particularly suitable if you are only going to be at the water for a few hours and perhaps need to change places in between. The folding chair can be set up in just a few seconds. Your fishing chair is ready for use in just two or three steps.
Compared to carp chairs, these are not only cheaper, but also much lighter. So you can grab your gear without much effort and also walk several hundred metres to your fishing spot.
However, folding chairs or camping chairs are less stable on muddy ground. Because the feet only have a small contact surface, they sink in more quickly in the mud. On uneven surfaces, problems can also arise because the feet of these models cannot be adjusted variably.
Another disadvantage is the padding. Folding chairs and camping chairs are practically not upholstered at all and thus offer little protection from the cold and wind. So if you plan to fish for several hours to days in one place, you should go for a more comfortable carp chair.
How does a tripod stool work and what are its advantages and disadvantages?
The tripod stool is the most minimalist form of fishing chair. It is used when things have to be done quickly. The three-legged stool is particularly suitable if you fish actively and have to change your fishing spot frequently.
With a weight of up to one kilogram, it is very light. It is also very easy to assemble, which makes it ideal if you have to walk a lot. In terms of price, the three-legged stool is the cheapest fishing chair you can buy. You can even buy it for 15 euros from well-known manufacturers.
The disadvantage of this variant is that you have to do without any comfort at all. There are no backrests or armrests. Sitting for long periods of time can become a torture and even cause back pain.
Trivia: Interesting facts about fishing chairs
Where does the fishing chair come from?
The chair or so-called folding chair was already used by the ancient Egyptians in a wooden version. Since metal was later used more than wood, the frames were also made of metal.
Today's fishing chair is a derivative of an earlier chair. The chair has been very popular since ancient times and was also used for war camps, travelling or walking. It can also be used for artistic work outdoors, which is why it was also called a field chair.
