Direct heaters are characterised by the fact that they are very powerful and heat up quickly.
They are also equipped with a very powerful fan, which distinguishes them from a radiant heater. The fan ensures that heat is distributed in the room due to rapid air circulation. There is no clear distinction from fan heaters. Usually, one speaks of heating canons when the heat output exceeds 4,000 watts. Pure radiators are also not cannons because they do not have fans.
What do I need a heating cannon for?
They are also used in agriculture. There, among other things, heating cannons are used to heat stables and nurseries. Greenhouses can also be brought to an optimal temperature with them. Heating cannons are even suitable for drying harvest products.
Even on construction sites, heat cannons can provide useful services. During renovation work, they can help to dry out building materials. In addition, construction site workers benefit from them when they are working in otherwise cold unfinished buildings. There is now a wide range of different models, which are either suitable for special purposes or can be used universally.
How do heat guns work?

What distinguishes a direct oil heating cannon and what are the advantages and disadvantages?
Direct oil heating cannons get their oxygen supply directly from the room. In addition, exhaust gases are emitted directly into the room. It consists of a tank and a pump that finely atomises the oil via a nozzle.
The heating oil mist burns in a combustion chamber. This chamber, in which the flame burns, is open.
Fuel is injected as long as the flame is burning. The burning process is checked by a photocell. The fuel supply is stopped as soon as the flame goes out. In addition, exhaust gases are emitted directly into the room. Since the exhaust gases are not disposed of via a chimney connection, small rooms should not be heated with it.
What are the characteristics of an indirect oil heater and what are the advantages and disadvantages?
Indirect oil heating cannons have connections for fresh air supply, a chimney connection and a connection for exhaust gases. In contrast to direct oil heating cannons, the flame of indirect oil heating cannons is enclosed in a separate combustion chamber.
This makes this variant also suitable for heating smaller rooms, provided that the connections are set correctly.
Indirect oil heating cannons are particularly suitable for drying buildings, as the moist air can be conducted outside very easily.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of diesel heat guns?
With these models, the heat is generated by burning diesel or heating oil. The heat output of a diesel cannon is over 60 kW. Cold air is sucked in via a turbine and releases the heated air into the environment. In contrast to the gas cannon, the tank is located in the device itself.
Diesel heaters consume oxygen and produce exhaust gases. For this reason, these models may only be used in well-ventilated rooms.
To prevent the fuel from freezing, a special fuel (winter diesel) is required in winter. An advantage of diesel heat cannons is that diesel is available around the clock at many petrol stations.
What distinguishes an electric heat gun and what are the advantages and disadvantages?
Electric heat guns are bestsellers because they can be connected to a construction power distributor or a CEE socket. They are also quieter than gas cannons and diesel cannons and do not require fuel. With electric heating cannons, the heat is generated by high voltage current.
The heat output is between 25 and 35 kW. The ambient air is heated by heating rods.
Electric fan heaters are ideal for small rooms as they do not consume oxygen and do not produce exhaust fumes. They are also ideal for heating greenhouses.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of a gas cannon?
Gas cannons are able to get the maximum heat output out of a cannon. These devices can achieve a heat output of up to 100 kW. However, they do not have a tank, which is why you need gas cylinders for operation.
You can distinguish between two gas heating cannons: Propane gas and butane gas. Butane gas does not require as high a pressure as propane gas, which means that the gas cylinders are lighter. However, butane gas can only be used in the summer months.
As soon as the temperatures drop and it gets frosty, you have to resort to propane gas. Gas heaters are particularly suitable for large halls, provided there is a sufficient air supply. Never use gas cannons in closed rooms!

Gas and diesel cannons in particular have the disadvantage of being highly flammable. For this reason, those devices should be equipped with an electronic flame monitor and an oxygen deficiency safety device.
An automatic shut-off system ensures that a heat gun switches off automatically in the event of overheating. This prevents the unit from being damaged and bursting into flames.
When a heat gun is in operation, the inside of the unit in particular heats up very strongly. To prevent people (especially children and pets) from accidentally touching hot parts, a protective grille should be an absolute must.

Finally, we would like to explain why it is so important to avoid gas heaters in closed rooms.
Why you should avoid gas heaters in closed rooms
If you use a gas heater in closed rooms, combustion gases can accumulate within a very short time. In addition to harmless water vapour, there is also a risk of carbon dioxide or toxic carbon monoxide (CO) forming. Since carbon monoxide is lighter than air, it rises to the ceiling if there is no possibility of exhausting it. The room thus gradually fills up with carbon monoxide.
During breathing, the gas enters the lungs and subsequently the blood. The gas binds 300 times more strongly to the red blood cells than oxygen. This means that oxygen has no chance of reaching the vital organs via the blood platelets.
At high carbon monoxide concentrations, just a few breaths are enough to kill a person. You virtually suffocate internally, even though breathing is no more difficult.
Depending on the concentration of CO, symptoms gradually become noticeable:
