That is why people often ask whether hemp protein and hemp flour are the same thing. Here the answer was: No. Because hemp protein is processed more finely, it is more expensive than hemp flour.

For whom is hemp protein suitable and what are the advantages and disadvantages?

For many people allergic to soy, gluten, milk, lupine or nuts, hemp protein is a good alternative to conventional protein powders. Hemp protein consists of 60-80% edestin globulin and the remaining 20-40% albumin, both proteins that are very important for the body.

Thanks to the high protein content, this protein powder is not only ideal for athletes, but also for vegans and vegetarians, as they thus have a perfect protein supply instead of meat. However, since the lysine and leucine content is relatively low, one should find an additional protein source, such as beans and lentils.

Even though hemp protein is used by many athletes to help build muscle, it helps with weight loss. All the nutrients provide a feeling of satiety, help with cravings and increase metabolism. The amount of 100 grams of hemp protein should not be exceeded daily.

In addition, the high magnesium content regulates blood pressure and protects against cramps and muscle tremors, which many athletes experience after a successful training session.

Hemp protein has a very natural taste that is described as earthy, nutty and even slightly bitter. The taste is often compared to grass and hay. However, if you can't get it down, you can easily mix the powder into smoothies, which you won't notice either.

What are the nutritional values of hemp protein?

Is hemp protein legal?

Of course hemp protein is legal, otherwise it would not have achieved cult status like this. It should be commercial hemp, which has a maximum THC content of 0.2%. Due to processing, only a small amount of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is present in the end in hemp protein.

It has no intoxicating effect and can be taken without any problems.

Despite all this, many people are prejudiced against hemp products because they do not know any better. That is why it is always important to inform yourself.

How much hemp protein should one take?

As with any food, hemp protein should be enjoyed in moderation. To stay within the healthy protein range, you should consume a maximum of 100 grams of hemp protein per day. Dosage recommendations can often be found on the packaging, which should ideally be followed.

Recommended is 30 grams per day, with about 15 grams of protein. However, the consumption depends on many factors. Depending on lifestyle, i.e. daily exercise, height and weight, but also how much protein we get from the rest of our diet, we should adjust the consumption. Athletes should consume 2.2 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight.

Compared to those, non-athletes should consume 'only' 0.8 grams of protein per kilogram.

How should I store hemp powder and what is its shelf life?

Protein powder should ideally be stored in a cool, dry place. This way, the protein powder can be kept almost indefinitely, although the taste can also decrease. Of course, it is best to follow the best-before date given by the manufacturer on the packaging.

What preparation options are available with hemp protein?

There are many ways to prepare hemp protein. Whether you use it to prepare delicious drinks, such as protein shakes, smoothies or juices, or whether you also want to bake with it, you remain flexible. Most product packaging states that the protein should be stirred into a liquid.

You have a free choice, from water to milk. Everyone can test for themselves what tastes best. However, it is recommended to mix it into a smoothie if you don't like the taste of the protein.
