How does an induction kettle work?

An induction hob generates eddy currents, which are transmitted ferromagnetically in connection with the base of an induction kettle. Inside the kettle, these currents continue to swirl and heat the water further, just as with a gas or electric hob.

Since direct heat transfer takes place in an induction-compatible kettle, the water reaches the boiling point even faster due to the eddy currents with the low heat loss.

When the boiling point is reached, the water evaporates through the attached flute. When the water vapour escapes, an acoustic signal is emitted, indicating that the water is now hot enough for coffee or tea.

But beware. Not every material is naturally suitable for an induction cooker. Kettles for induction made of aluminium, copper or glass require a base that transmits the ferromagnetic waves. Since these materials are non-magnetic metals, an additional base is required that is made of a magnetic metal. These are usually iron, nickel, cobalt or alloys.
