UPS stands for uninterruptible power supply. A UPS is needed more in companies where equipment with sensitive data must not fail or crash. UPS are mainly used in hospitals, laboratories, cold stores, IT companies and computer servers.

In the companies mentioned, even the smallest interruptions can lead to the loss of important data/information. So you should consider whether it really makes sense for you to install a UPS or whether a manual power generator that you can simply start yourself if necessary is sufficient.

With this variant, batteries are installed that prevent important devices from being switched off in the event of a failure. In this way, all devices continue to be supplied with power. Since the generator naturally needs time to warm up, the battery takes over full power during this time. The battery is then charged later by the inverter.   • Carburettor air filter unit: In the carburettor air filter unit, the fuel is finely atomised and combined with the already pre-filtered air. Fuel-air composition result in an explosion in the combustion chamber and the inverter generator starts to work.
  • Fuel tank: Fuel is filled in the fuel tank. Petrol-powered inverter generators operate quietly and smoothly. They are also cheaper. In addition, the size of the tank determines how long an inverter generator will work without refuelling. High-quality devices can run for up to 14 hours without refilling.

Facts worth knowing about inverter power generators

What do I have to consider with an inverter power generator?

Emergency generators must not be operated in closed buildings. Sufficient cooling air must be guaranteed and exhaust gases must be able to escape directly into the open air. Installation in buildings is only permitted in specially designated rooms. A chimney sweep can tell you which rooms these are. The installation should be carried out by a professional in any case.

For the power supply, a decision is made between 230 volts and 400 volts. Normally, a 230 volt unit is quite sufficient. However, the following must be observed: Mains may only be fed by an emergency generator that has phase balancing to avoid overload. Without phase balancing, units can be damaged.

How do I earth an inverter power generator?

Our conventional power connection already has an earthing. The residual current device (RCD) ensures that the current flow is interrupted on contact. This prevents the risk of electrocution, otherwise we would be exposed to a life-threatening hazard every time we touched it. On construction sites and in workshops, a so-called isolating transformer is used.

Earthing is required: when flammable liquids are pumped through pipes and electrostatic charging is to be expected or when electricity is fed into a fixed installation.

The earthing connection depends on the power range and type of use. No earthing is required for small mobile generators. Since no dangerous touch current can occur in the event of a physical short circuit in connection between active conductors and consumer housings.

Mobile power generators without an earthed star point are only suitable for operation in the IT network or for the protective measure of protective separation. To properly earth a power generator, an earth spike must be inserted into the ground. The condition of the soil is crucial for earthing. Sandy soils or loose soils are rather unsuitable.
