How are macadamia nuts cracked?

However, if you are interested in the unshelled version of the expensive nut, as it has a longer shelf life, for example, you can use the following variants as a guide:

  • Use a nutcracker with a thread. This way the nut is in a kind of pocket and its shell will break when you press down the metal pin. Table nut crackers or macadamia nut crackers can also be an ideal alternative here, as they make cracking extremely easy due to their leverage.
  • Use a wooden mallet. Place the frozen nut with the hand nutcracker on a stable work surface and work it carefully with a hammer
  • Use a vice. With a hand vice you can open macadamia nuts less quickly and effectively, but you will also get the result. The best way is to place the nut in the vice and crack the nut by tapping it lightly with a hammer.
  • Soak and boil. The variant that probably requires the least force is to boil the nuts in salt water. As soon as the nuts float to the surface of the water, the shell bursts open in one place and the nuts are very easy to peel by hand.

How do you roast macadamia nuts in the oven?

Macadamia nuts taste great with cheese, meat, in desserts, with chocolate or even completely natural.

However, oven-roasted macadamia nuts are also very popular, with their velvety and crunchy character. How you can roast macadamia nuts at home in the oven is explained below:

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C.
  2. Divide the macadamia nuts into equal-sized pieces and spread them out on a baking tray without baking paper.
  3. At this point you can sprinkle the nuts with a mixture of salt, water and butter to improve the taste of the roasted macadamia nuts.
  4. Place the tray in the preheated oven and roast the nuts for about 6-8 minutes, depending on your preference. Turn the nuts every 2 minutes so that they take on an even, golden brown colour.
  5. Take the nuts out of the oven and remove them from the hot baking tray.
  6. Season the macadamia nuts with your favourite spices while they are still hot. Sea salt, cumin pepper, coriander, chilli, black pepper and curry work well.

It is best to leave the roasted and spiced macadamia nuts to cool on a baking tray before enjoying them. If you don't want to eat them right away, simply store the nuts in an airtight box so they don't go bad or rancid.
