The Best 24 Inch Monitor: Our Picks

Buying and evaluation criteria for 24-inch monitors

If you want to buy a 24-inch monitor, you can find many different models on the Internet and in supermarkets. In the following, we have listed the most important criteria you should look for when buying a 24 inch monitor.

In summary, these are:

We will now explain the different criteria in more detail.

Range of use

You can use a computer monitor for office work, gaming or image editing.

The size of an ideal office monitor varies between 22 (approx. 56 cm) and 27 inches (approx. 69 cm). The 24-inch monitor is a comfortable size for viewing small picture elements. The screen size also offers plenty of space for working.

When gaming, your monitor must always have more hertz than the processor to which it is connected.

The requirements for gaming monitors are constantly growing. The size of the monitor is also of enormous importance for gamers. A 24-inch monitor is often big enough for gaming.

In addition, you always have a good view of the screen and can use a smaller graphics card. The graphics card converts the data from the processor for the monitor. It is a necessary component for the monitor to be able to display an image.

If you want to buy a monitor for gaming, it is important to keep an eye on the refresh rate. Your monitor must always outperform your processor, otherwise you may experience judder. If your monitor has more hertz than your processor, then the signals from the graphics card can be synchronised with the refresh rate of the monitor. This prevents interruptions.

The shape of the monitor is another important feature. There are straight and curved monitors. A curved monitor makes sense especially with larger screens because it widens the field of vision. So you can even see the edge of the screen without turning your head. The curved monitor also helps to respect the 50-70 cm distance recommended by doctors.

However, many of the advantages of the curved monitor only become apparent with the 27 inch monitor.

Smaller formats such as the 24 inch monitor usually do not need this feature for you to use it efficiently.

For example, the monitor is small enough so that your eyes do not have to block out the edge. They also tire less quickly and do not need the curved shape.

The increased distance to the monitor due to its curved shape also remains an advantage with the 24 inch monitor. With a 24-inch monitor, however, it is ultimately more a matter of taste whether you want to buy a curved screen or not.

An adjustable monitor can offer a number of advantages. You can easily adjust the height to the way you want it. A well adjusted height can protect you from neck pain and is therefore indispensable.

Many curved monitors do not have the ability to rotate 90 degrees

Of course, you can also adjust the size by placing books or other items under the monitor. However, if this is too unstable for you, we advise you to keep an eye on the height adjustability before choosing a monitor.

Adjustability of course also includes 90 degree rotation. This is possible with most monitors. It is more difficult with curved monitors, as they usually do not have this capability.

So if you really want this feature, stick with flat screens or do some research first.

The resolution of most 24-inch monitors is 1,920 × 1,080 pixels, reaching Full HD.

The resolution becomes an issue especially with 27 inch monitors. In fact, the pixels in Full HD become visible when you look more closely. It is therefore worth buying a monitor with 2560 × 1440 pixels.

It is best to orientate yourself on the "dots per inch" (dpi) specification. This is the dot density calculated per inch. This allows you to compare monitors regardless of their actual size.

Connectors are another important criterion when buying a monitor. Each monitor usually has different connectors that allow you to connect it to your computer or processor. Typically, these different connectors include the VGA connector, the DVI connector and the HDMI connector. It should be noted that some older monitors do not yet have the HDMI connection.

Connection type benefits
VGA image transmission of analogue signals
DVI image transmission of analogue and digital signals
HDMI high-resolution image transmission, especially for gaming

The VGA connection is an old type of connection that is an image transmission standard for plug and cable connections between the graphics card and the monitor. However, it has to convert the analogue signals for it to work. That is why DVI connectors are increasingly being used for this purpose.

The DVI connection transmits analogue and digital image and video data. It has become the standard for new LED and LCD/TFT monitors. You can also use it to connect your PC or DVD player to the TV.

The HDMI connection can be used with monitors with Full HD resolution. The 24-inch monitor also belongs to this category. It makes it possible to display high-resolution images on the monitor. This is mainly used by gamers who want to have the cleanest possible picture.

Guide: Questions you should ask yourself before buying a 24-inch monitor

In the following section, we have selected the most important questions about 24-inch monitors and answered them for you.

What is special about a 24 inch monitor and what advantages does it offer?

A computer monitor is a screen that can be connected to a computer. A 24-inch monitor is a screen with a diameter of 60.96 cm.

24 Zoll Monitor-1

A 24-inch monitor is still small enough that your eyes don't have to block out the edge of the screen. It makes your eyes less tired and gives you fewer headaches. It is suitable for gaming, image editing and office work. It usually offers a full HD resolution and the quality of the images is therefore sufficiently good.

Its format also allows it to cope with a smaller graphics card. Since the graphics card converts data from the processor to the monitor, it is a necessary component for the reproduction of the image on the monitor.

What types of 24 inch monitors are there?

A distinction can be made between 24-inch monitors for gaming and office use. The requirements for gaming monitors are constantly growing. The monitors must therefore offer more and more functions.

Gaming monitor

First you have to think about whether you really need a gaming monitor. If you only do a little gaming in your free time, you can usually get by with a normal monitor. Gaming monitors can be very expensive with their many functions and it is therefore not always worth buying one.

24 Zoll Monitor-2

A gaming monitor should also be well equipped for gaming. Therefore, always pay attention to the refresh rate and the response time. (Image source: Priyam Raj / unsplash)

A monitor that is specialised for gaming usually has a higher refresh rate than normal office monitors. This is because the monitors have to be able to do more than the processors. Many monitors are equipped with a refresh rate of 60 hertz. This means that 60 images are displayed in one second. But if your processor can do more than that, there will be interference.

A fast response time is also very important when gaming. That's why many gaming monitors are equipped with a shorter response time than normal screens. At best, your screen will have a delay of only one millisecond. This is especially important when games test your reflexes.

  • higher refresh rate
  • faster response time
  • real expensive

So it's important to first think about whether you really need a gaming monitor or not. Gaming monitors come with many features and can therefore become expensive very quickly.

Office monitor

A monitor for work needs fewer features than a gaming monitor and is therefore usually cheaper. In fact, it doesn't really matter whether the monitor has a refresh rate of 60 hertz or 144 hertz. Whether the screen can offer you 144 frames per second or not is not very important when editing a document.

Office monitors usually cost less because they have fewer features

The response time is also rather secondary when editing documents. You can better tolerate waiting a little longer for the monitor here. Whether your document opens a millisecond earlier or later after the click is secondary.

With the office monitor, the most important thing is to have a clean picture and a comfortable format. As already mentioned, most 24 inch monitors come in Full HD, which is more than sufficient for office work. The format is well suited for working in front of the monitor for long periods of time. The height of the monitor is also very important for long work. It protects your neck and back.

  • cheaper
  • fewer functions

The future area of use is very important for the purchase decision. Different monitors offer different functions, which are not suitable for every area. So if you are looking for a monitor for work, the price of some features is not really worth it.

Who is a 24 inch monitor suitable for?

A 24 inch monitor is basically suitable for everyone.

You can use it for office work or for gaming. The monitor is also good for image editing.

The 24 inch monitor offers good quality images and a comfortable format. The gaming monitors usually offer more features than the office monitors. So it depends on what you are going to use the monitor for.

How do I adjust a 24 inch monitor?

To adjust a monitor properly, you can follow these steps:

  1. Preparation: First, make sure the screen is clean so as not to affect the perceived colour. The light in the room should also be right so that it does not reflect on the screen.
  2. Set the screen resolution: check what screen resolution your monitor has. Windows usually recognises this itself and will recommend it to you. To open it on the desktop, right-click and select "Screen resolution" from the menu.
  3. Set thecolour depth: You can now set the colour depth to the maximum. This is usually 32 bits. You can also edit this in the screen resolution settings window. If you want to be very precise, you can also print out a reference photo and adjust the colours later.
  4. Calibration: You can now open the search window in the Windows start menu and enter "Calibrate screen colour" and select the calibration tool. You can now simply follow the instructions on the screen and adjust the gamma value, brightness and contrast.

How big is a 24 inch monitor and what resolution does it have?

The 24 inch monitor has a diameter of 60.96 cm. It is therefore larger than the 22 inch monitor (55.88 cm) and smaller than the 27 inch monitor (68.58 cm).

The resolution on a 24 inch monitor is usually 1,920 × 1,080 pixels. It thus achieves full HD.

Full HD is sufficient for a 24-inch monitor because the format is small enough that you cannot see the pixels.

Keeping an eye on the resolution is worthwhile especially with the 27 inch monitor. This is large enough that you can already see the pixels with the Full HD resolution. There, it is usually worth buying a 2560 × 1440 pixel monitor.
