How does a Philips iron work?

The irons offered by Philips work like all other similar products on the market.

The two most important components are the heating coil, which is located in the soleplate of the iron, and the temperature regulator.

The heating coil is heated by a power source, causing the soleplate to heat up. When contact with the power source is interrupted, the heating coil cools down and so does the soleplate.

The temperature controller ensures that the sole does not overheat. This happens when the current circuit to the heating coil is interrupted by the temperature controller.

Aluminium soleplate

A variant that is very hard to find in Philips irons these days is the aluminium soleplate.

We do not recommend the aluminium soleplate.

Stainless steel soleplate

The stainless steel soleplate is a better alternative to aluminium, which you can find in Philips products on the market.

Stainless steel is much more robust, scratch-resistant and smooths even better. This material is heavier than aluminium, but still light enough that you can use your appliance without any problems.

Ceramic soleplate

The ceramic soleplate is considered the best alternative on the market.

Thanks to the T-Ionic-Glide technology, it is comparable to the stainless steel soleplate. Ceramic promises optimal steam distribution and has the best gliding properties.

Nevertheless, we must mention here that the ceramic soleplate is suitable for steam irons.

If you decide to use a dry iron, this material is not the best for you.

Anti-limescale system

If the steam iron is right for you, make sure it has an anti-limescale system.

Philips are known for introducing a high quality anti-limescale system in their irons.

Limescale deposits can be easily removed, ideally with the help of an anti-scale tablet.

The integrated limescale cartridge ensures that the iron cleans itself and that the soleplate remains clean.
