How should I dose psyllium husk powder?

The information on the dosage of psyllium husk powder can vary depending on the manufacturer. However, no more than forty grams should be taken per day. Most manufacturers recommend two to three teaspoons per day. For best results, take the powder on an empty stomach. Therefore, it is recommended to consume the psyllium husks directly after getting up, about half an hour before breakfast. If you do not have time in the morning, you can also take the powder later, but then you should make sure that there is a break of at least two hours from the previous meal.

However, it is not a problem to take the powder already mixed with other food. It is only possible that the detoxifying effect will then be weakened, as there are other products in the intestine besides the psyllium husk. It is especially important to drink enough water during and after the intake. It is best to mix a heaped teaspoon of powder with at least two hundred and fifty millilitres of water. Afterwards, you should drink an additional two glasses.

It is best to drink at least three litres of water throughout the day so that the seed shells can swell optimally. You should also make sure that you drink the mixture quickly after stirring it in. Otherwise, the seed shells will already swell up in the glass and become a slimy mass that is inedible for some.
