The principle of the Slow Juicer comes from science. Scientists have found that people can best absorb and metabolise food at a chewing speed of thirty to forty movements per minute.

This principle of slow food intake was mechanically transferred to the Slow Juicer.

How does a Slow Juicer work?

The slow rotation or speed of the pressing screws distinguishes the Slow Juicer from similar devices. The low number of revolutions prevents too much heat and therefore oxidation, which results in the preservation of vitamins.

A cold juicer extracts the juice mechanically. The pressed material, usually fruit, vegetables or herbs, is crushed by a powerful roller in order to generate the juice from the pulp obtained. Of course, there are some differences between the various models.

What is the difference between a slow juicer and a conventional juicer?

Steam juicer

These appliances produce fruit juice by means of steam. For this purpose, the cut pieces of fruit are made to sweat with the help of a sieve and the steam and thus juiced. The juice is then drained through a hose into a separate container.

What is a horizontal slow juicer and what are its advantages and disadvantages?

With horizontal cold juicers, the pressing screw is aligned horizontally. Therefore, they need a little more space than vertical slow juicers. The vertical orientation of the pressing auger creates a larger pressing area in which the fruit and vegetables are pressed out.

The difference is that the fruit and vegetables are pressed directly and not crushed first, as is usual with a vertical model. Due to the immediate pressing, less pulp gets into the juice. The result is a finer juice that is less creamy than that of a vertical juicer.

The prepared fruit is placed in the feed chute. There, the fruit or vegetable is first crushed by the rotating blades and the resulting pulp is then pressed and sieved.

Vertical cold juicers usually have a larger feed opening than horizontal models. Therefore, you do not have to prepare the ingredients for your juice as carefully. The vertical auger also saves you time, as it processes the ingredients more quickly and produces more juice.

When buying a slow juicer, you should look at the quality of the materials used and how easy it is to clean the individual parts. Some appliances are made of hard plastic and others are made of stainless steel. If you plan to offer your fresh juices to young children, look for a model with BPA-free plastic.
