Concrete spike. This type of tool is extremely resistant, as it is very difficult to break, it can bend, but it straightens easily without losing its properties. For its installation it requires anchors to be fixed in the right way to the surface where it will be fastened.

They have the characteristic of having a thread at the end to be able to have an ideal fastening to the anchor. They are usually made of galvanised steel or iron and you can find them in different sizes and can support up to 60 kg per fastening point.

Wooden spike. Compared to the ones used for concrete, these wooden plugs are much lighter and thinner, while maintaining their strength and durability. For installation, only a hammer is required to hold the wood properly.

They have the characteristic of being smooth and have a sharp point for easy nailing to the surface. Most of them are made of galvanised steel or stainless steel and you can find them in different sizes and dimensions, each of them can support up to 30 kg of weight.

Buying criteria: factors that allow you to compare and rate the different models of pliers

Apart from the models and types of pliers you need, all of them must be analysed under different parameters in order to make an objective comparison and select the ideal one for you. These factors are decisive for the success of your choice. That is why we explain the most important ones to you. These are:

  • Materials of manufacture
  • Type of socket head
  • Dimensions

Manufacturing materials

Nowadays there are 3 materials that are most commonly used for the manufacture of this tool. By knowing the properties and characteristics of each one of them, you will understand which one is the most suitable for the work you are going to do. We will explain the most relevant aspects of each one.

Iron. This is the cheapest and lowest quality of the 3 alloys, however, it is resistant to concrete surfaces. It can rust outdoors, so it is recommended for indoor use.

Zinc plated steel. It is very similar to galvanised steel, with the characteristic of being zinc plated. It is highly resistant to weathering and this plating gives it resistance to corrosion. It is recommended for use indoors, in dry environments and is especially suitable for wooden surfaces.

Stainless steel. It is highly resistant to corrosion and therefore highly recommended for exteriors and concrete surfaces. It also offers adequate malleability to produce the threaded end easily.

Type of head

Depending on the activity to be carried out, it is the type of head that is needed, since each one is for specific situations. Here are the most commonly used ones and their general characteristics.

Round head. You can find this type of fixing head both closed and open and its function is to secure the object to be hung. They are recommended for use on uneven walls or ceilings so that the round part of the head supports the pendant without it falling. They are also generally used on concrete or brick.

Linear head. It is in the shape of an elbow looking for the fastening of the objects in the part of the joint. You can find it smooth, ideal for wooden surfaces or threaded, which with its respective socket is suitable for concrete.

The diameter of the eyelets depends on the size of the object to be loaded, but above all on the weight of the object. The heavier the object, the larger the size of the spike, and vice versa. This is why we show you the sizes of this tool and the maximum suggested weight.
