Type of sugar alternative

As mentioned earlier, some ingredients that replace sugar might be allergic to some people. However, the type of sweetener also has an impact on the calorie content, of course.

For example, if you use fruit or coconut blossom sugar for sweetening, you will have a higher number of calories than if you sweeten with artificial or some sugar substitutes (types of sweeteners), as these contain practically no or hardly any calories. These include, for example, xylitol, erythritol and stevia.

There are eleven sweetener types in Europe that are legal. These best known are aspartame, acesulfame K, cyclamate, saccharin or sucralose. However, they can also be labelled with an E number such as E 950.


Basically, the taste of sugar-free chocolate is not really different from conventional chocolate because stevia, for example, has 300 times the sweetening power of sugar.
