An otherwise ideally cooked dish is often ruined because it burns after a moment of carelessness or too much heat and now sticks to the pan. When you want to remove the food from the pan, it may fall apart on the spatula.

The only solution is to fry with a lot of fat, which is not only wasteful, but can also endanger your health in the long run. Coated pans like the Tefal pan can easily remedy this. The Best Tefal Pan: Our Picks

Guide: Questions you should ask yourself before buying a Tefal pan

In what price range are Tefal pans?

There are a lot of different Tefal pans, for this reason the price range between the individual pans is very large. The prices depend on the quality and the size. The price range is approximately between 15 and 140 euros. A Tefal pan that can be used for many delicious dishes, the prices seem reasonable to us.

Tefal pans are available in two different materials. Firstly, there are Tefal pans made of stainless steel or aluminium. Of both types, there are cheap Tefal pans or expensive ones. The price depends only on the quality and size, so to speak.

What distinguishes Tefal pans from other manufacturers?

One point that distinguishes Tefal pans from other manufacturers is that these pans have titanium coatings, these coatings contain mineral particles that greatly extend the durability of coatings. The coatings do not let the food stick to the pan, so you don't need any oil.

Because the Tefal pan always performs very well in tests, one can conclude that Tefal is one of the best manufacturers in the world.

The Tefal pan is always very high up in rankings. So it has a very high standard and very good quality. In addition, the pans are usually very inexpensive.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of Tefal pans?

Tefal pans do very well in tests with their price-performance ratio. However, it is not only the price-performance ratio that is very good, but also the diverse frying properties that make Tefal pans unique kitchenware.

Another advantage of Tefal pans is the thermospot, a red dot in the pan that indicates when the pan is hot enough to fry. However, it is sometimes difficult to see the discolouration of the thermospot.

With the coating, you never have to worry about food sticking to the pan, but you also have to be aware that coatings don't last 100 per cent forever; the coating can get a little rubbed off over time.

Value for money Very good
Frying properties Versatile
Thermospot Unique

In which size should I buy a Tefal pan?

You can buy Tefal pans in many different sizes, but you should make sure that the pan is not larger than the stovetop, otherwise the pan may become deformed.

The sizes of pans are almost always given in relation to the diameter of the upper rim of the pan. Sometimes the diameter of the bottom of the pan is also given.

The size of the Tefal pan depends on what you want to cook and for whom. If you are only planning to cook for one person, a smaller Tefal pan is sufficient, but for more people you will need a larger Tefal pan. On Amazon, you will find many pans with a diameter of 24 cm or 28 cm.

It goes without saying that your pan should not be smaller than your stomach. When buying a Tefal pan, always think about the stomachs it will fill with food. (Image source: Jarek / Ceborski)

It is best to have different sizes of Tefal pans in your household, because this way you are best prepared for different occasions.

What alternatives are there to Tefal pans?

An alternative to Tefal pans are ceramic-coated pans. Ceramic pans absorb heat quickly and transfer the heat optimally to the dish. The ceramic pans are also very heat-resistant and still do not release harmful substances at 400°C.

This alternative is also very similar to the Tefal pan because it also contains a non-stick coating. This means that you can cook with the ceramic coating in the pan without oil and grease and without the dishes sticking to the bottom of the pan.

In addition, the ceramic pans are almost scratch-resistant and abrasion-proof. But the Tefal pan is still the test winner and has been beating all other market participants hands down for almost 60 years.

Decision: What types of Tefal pans are there and which one is right for you?

If you want to buy a Tefal pan, you will probably come across two different types of Tefal pans.

  • Stainless steel Tefal pan
  • Aluminium Tefal pan

These two materials are generally very well suited for pans. You can handle both pans very well as a normal consumer and prepare tasty dishes.

But if you take a closer look at the two types of pans, you will find one or two differences. We will now explain these differences in the following sections.

What distinguishes a stainless steel Tefal pan and what are its advantages and disadvantages?

  • A great advantage of the Tefal pan is the non-stick effect, where you don't have to pour any oil or other fats into the dishes, but you can fully enjoy the taste of the fried food.
  • With Tefal pans, you no longer have to worry about your dishes sticking to you because the coating puts a film on the pan, just like conventional oils do.

For these two reasons, a stainless steel or an aluminium Tefal pan is exactly right for you.

Stainless steel, also known as the diamond of metals, is an alloy that is very heat resistant and therefore very suitable for any frying.

Advantages
  • Heat resistant
  • Suitable for searing
  • Heat retention
  • Does not react with food
Disadvantages
  • Components can dissolve
  • Rim heats slowly
  • Heat conductivity poor

A stainless steel Tefal pan is a pan where you don't have to worry about the food getting cold again as soon as you switch off the hob, because stainless steel is very good at retaining heat for a long time.

What distinguishes an aluminium Tefal pan and what are its advantages and disadvantages?

In contrast to the stainless steel Tefal pan, the aluminium Tefal pan has very good heat conductivity. This means that the pan can absorb the heat from the stovetops very quickly and transfer it to the dishes. So if you need to satisfy your hunger very quickly, an aluminium Tefal pan is the right choice for you.

Advantages
  • Good heat conductivity
  • Low-fat frying
  • Various shapes of pan
  • Lightweight pan
  • Easy to clean
Disadvantages
  • Not heat resistant
  • Scratches quickly
  • Not high heat
  • May react with food

Aluminium pans are usually cast. This means that a template is first made and then only the aluminium is poured into it. For this reason, aluminium pans can have different shapes, such as square, oval or the familiar round shape.

Buying criteria: You can use these factors to compare and evaluate Tefal pans

In the following, we will show you which aspects you can use to decide between the many possible Tefal pans.

The criteria you can use to compare Tefal pans are:

  • Weight
  • Diameter upper rim / base
  • Dishwasher safe
  • Coating

In the following sections, we will explain what is important in each of the criteria.

Weight

The weight of Tefal pans varies greatly, because there is not only one material that Tefal pans are made of

Stainless steel pans are rather solid in weight, which means that the weight of a pan with a diameter of 20 cm to 30 cm is approximately 1 kg to 3 kg.

An aluminium pan is lighter than a stainless steel pan and therefore easier to handle. It weighs about 0.5 to 2 kg

Make sure that your pans are never too heavy. They should be heavy enough to be easily carried. But a pan that is too light is not good either, because then the pans deform more easily. So you should find a good middle ground with the right pan.

Diameter of upper rim / base

The base is very important when it comes to the diameter, because the base of the pan must not be more than 1 to 2 centimetres larger than the stovetop.

If the pan does not fit on the hob, then the pan will start to warp and the heat will not be evenly distributed in the pan, for this reason it is very important to choose the right size of hob.

If you want to find out how big your hotplates are, just read the sizes in the instruction manual of your hotplate or measure it yourself directly on the hotplate.

There are many Tefal pans available in almost all online shops and most of them come in different sizes, so your pan size will certainly be included.

The stainless steel pans as well as the aluminium pans from Tefal are both available in different sizes.

The diameter of the base is usually not the same as the diameter of the rim of the pan, because a round pan usually gets bigger towards the top.

Dishwasher safe

An aluminium / stainless steel Tefal pan should not be washed in the dishwasher, because over time the pan gets a grey coating.

The pans must not be put in the dishwasher because they have a coating. The detergent removes these coatings more and more over time. For this reason, dishwashers for coated pans should be avoided.

It doesn't depend on the heat that you shouldn't put pans in the dishwasher, but only on the dishwashing detergents, because they are far too aggressive in the long run.

You should also not wash the coated pans with too much detergent, because particles of the detergent get stuck in the frying pan and the next time you heat them up they dissolve into chemical components that can be carcinogenic. So it is best to rinse with water after use, allow to soak and then dry out with a paper.

Coating

The coating of a pan brings a lot of advantages with it, because with the non-stick coating you don't have to empty so much oil and various fats into the pan, because the coating makes sure that without fats or oils the food doesn't stick.

So you have a dish that really only consists of the ingredients you want to put in it.

People who want to watch their calories when eating are in the right place with coated pans

But fat also gives off its own flavour to the dishes, which many people prefer because they are used to it. If that were the case, there would be no need to buy a coated pan.

The Tefal pan coating also keeps the heat on for a very long time. You may notice a few scratches after a few years of daily use, but the coating still works, in that even after several years of use, no dishes stick and you can get the food out easily with any spatula.

Facts worth knowing about Tefal pans

Who is behind the Tefal brand?

The name Tefal is a combination of Teflonand aluminium. Tefal was the first company to make non-stick coatings on pans.

Over the last 75 years, the company has grown rapidly to become a group that sells kitchenware in more than 120 countries around the world and has won tests for its kitchenware almost everywhere. At the moment, around 100 million Tefal pans are produced.

However, the company does not only produce pans, but the developers also try to make the daily routine easier for their customers. For this reason, in addition to pans, they also produce cordless irons, induction hobs, sandwich toasters, rice cookers, hot air and much more.

But apart from these products, the pans are still the most popular.

How long has Tefal been around?

It all started in 1954 with a man in France, Marc Grégoire, who followed his wife's advice and coated the pan with Teflon, just like he did with his fishing rods.

Marc Grégoire quickly realised that Teflon was something very special, something that had not been known in the world before and two years later he founded the company Tefal because the non-stick pans were very popular in the world.

How popular is the manufacturer Tefal?

The manufacturer has made such a big name for itself in Germany that many well-known chefs also work with Tefal pans. Tefal frying pans are the pioneers on the global market for coated pans.

Thomas Bühner, for example, loves to cook with Tefal pans. Tefal is one of the best-known manufacturers of kitchen appliances, which is partly due to their famous customer base.

Jamie Oliver is also a very famous chef who even has his own product line at Tefal. This product line is called: ''Jamie Oliver Professional Series By Tefal'' and is a very popular brand of Tefal products. You can also find this brand in almost all online shops that sell Tefal cookware.

Where are Tefal pans made?

Almost half of Tefal pans are manufactured in Rumilly, France. This is the largest pan factory in the world.

Around 1700 workers are employed in this factory, which covers an area of approximately 160,000 square metres. In general, more than 50 million pans and other household appliances are produced by Tefal every year.

What is the warranty on Tefal pans?

Tefal provides a 2-year warranty on pans, to be exact on material or manufacturing defects, starting from the date of purchase. If you have any other problems, you can contact your local Tefal customer service.

You can find information about customer support in the user manual, on the packaging or in the corresponding country list. You can always find the country list on the tefal.com website.

If Tefal acknowledges your defect and confirms it, you will receive either a new product or at least an equivalent replacement.

When is the Tefal pan hot?

The Tefal pan has a red dot in the middle. This is called a thermospot, and it turns colour when the pan is hot enough to fry in. So you don't have to find out on your own whether the pan is hot enough or not, but the pan indicates this by itself.

The optimal frying temperature is 190 °C. As soon as the pan reaches this heat, the dot will fill in all red and you will know that you can start frying. This thermospot technology should help you avoid overheating the pan and breaking it over time.

There are also Tefal pans that do not have a thermospot. With these Tefal pans, you have to resort to other conventional types as normal.
