Trunks: Our Selection
More and more, fashion comes to swimwear. The styles of swimwear are various, trying to suit all body types. And, of course, the design also gets bolder. Therefore, we have selected the swimwear models that deserve to be highlighted. Let's get to them!
Do you know the differences between the different types of swimwear? Which ones are more suitable for each body? And for the different aquatic activities? In the next lines, we will bring you all the information you need to choose the perfect swimsuit!
What is a sunga?
Nowadays, shorts and swim shorts have also become very popular. The first criterion for choice will always be personal taste - wearing what you feel best about yourself? But there are also other questions to be asked.
For example, what is your purpose in the water? Have you noticed that most water sports athletes wear swimwear? This is because they are certainly more recommended in cases that require high performance. Even more so with the technologies that are constantly emerging.
What are the advantages of wearing a swimsuit?
It enhances the body and can be found in different price ranges. However, there are also negative points.
We have put together a table of the advantages and disadvantages of swimwear in relation to the other pieces most commonly used:
What are the most popular styles of swimwear today?
- Sunga Tradicional: The most famous of the swimwear. It usually has 13 cm sides and is not too low-cut. It is very comfortable and does not show too much.
- Boxer shorts: A beach variation of the boxer briefs, also very popular. They have 18 cm on the side, reaching the thighs. It is quite tight, but has a length that provides comfort and beauty.
- Slim Fit Sunga: This is the novelty in today's fashion. The more "fitness" men use it more and more. It is very low-cut and shows a lot of the body and the thigh area.
- Sunga Speedo or Brief: The shortest on the sides, with 7 cm. They are also the most recommended for sports. They provide greater aerodynamics, but can also be very revealing for some tastes.
It is worth remembering that, in almost all cases, it is not recommended to wear white swimwear if you are going to go in the water: there is a great chance of it becoming transparent!
In English, many call the sunga "speedo", referring to the brand (and right here we associate a style to it). It's a case of the occurrence we had here in Brazil with products like BomBril, Chiclete and Xerox
How to choose the ideal swimwear for your body?
These tips aim to adapt the body types to the styles of swimwear. There are those models that favor and disfavor certain people.
For example, the shorter you are, the more you should avoid big swimwear. This happens because they give the impression that the legs are even smaller, diminishing the wearer in the eyes of others.
The reciprocal is also true. The taller you are, the longer your swimwear should be. The harmony in the use enhances the ideal characteristics of each one.
Those who are overweight should look for swimsuits with longer sides, like the traditional ones. Athletic bodies look better in models with short or low-cut sides, like the slim fit.
In the table below, we list the main types of swimwear and the bodies in which they look best:
|Type of swimwear||Most recommended uses|
|Traditional||Looks good on all bodies|
|Boxer||Taller men, overweight men|
|Slim Fit||Men with athletic and defined body|
|Speedo or Brief||Shorter men, thinner men|
Purchase criteria: What to take into consideration when buying your swimwear
Besides design and comfort, there are a few more details to pay attention to when buying your swimwear. We list the most important ones below:
- Technologies involved
We'll explain each of them better below!
Swimwear, like all garments, are sold in different sizes. Ideally, you should know exactly what your measurements are before you buy, as it is not usually possible to try on underwear.
To buy online, choose models that specify the measurements of each size. In a physical shop it is easier, as you will have the real dimensions of the product at hand. Brands are different from each other, don't forget.
Most brands offer sizes small, medium, large and extra large. It is not a good idea to get a swimsuit that does not fit you, right?
Water absorption, ability to prevent bad smell and protection are some of the most important features for swimwear fabric. Simple materials, like cotton, do not produce good results.
The most recommended is to use polyamide and elastane pieces. Besides providing great adherence to the body, they help a lot because they don't absorb much water, that is, they don't get heavy after use, nor uncomfortable.
They are also durable materials, since these pieces need to be washed frequently.
Nothing is more personal than clothing design preference, is there? So it's no good just picking any swimwear, it needs to look and feel like you! Again, feeling comfortable is the most important thing about clothes.
There are several models that are entirely in black or another dark colour, therefore, very discreet. Others bring various details, degrades, designs and prints. They will call much more attention and will attract the eyes. Which one do you prefer?
Are you going to play sports in your swimwear? Running on the beach, swimming, playing water polo, maybe just having fun with lots of movement? Then be aware that many manufacturers are putting technologies in their swimwear to help you!
This is the case, for example, of Water Feel and Tec Press, of specific brands, developed to help the elasticity of the fabric. They make sure that every movement is accompanied by the fabric, never giving sensations of discomfort.
If your idea is not to have swimwear just for leisure, understand which brands produce pieces with technologies that favor your sports practice!
