The Best Wall Table: Our Choices

Guide: Questions you should ask yourself before buying a wall table

What is a wall table?

A wall table is the space-saving alternative to a conventional table. Whether as storage space for students, offices or as a changing table for babies, you can use a wall table anywhere. You can also use a wall table as a decorative element in the living room to give the room a modern and practical look.

Since there are different designs, there is a suitable table for every style of living. Either as a folding wall table without table legs, or as a small decorative table with several table legs. Because it is easy to clean, it can be used in every home and for every purpose.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of wall tables compared to normal tables?

When comparing wall tables and regular tables, there are some advantages and disadvantages. In the case of foldable and non-foldable wall tables, the point of saving space is the main advantage. In addition, such a table can not only be beautiful, but also very stable and practical.

Depending on the material, a wall table is also very easy to clean. Of course, all types of plastic are easier to maintain than some types of wood.

  • Space-saving
  • Stable
  • Practical
  • Easy to clean
  • Small
  • Only partially stable

However, it always depends on the quality of the table. Of course, a wall table that is not the best in terms of quality can also be unstable and therefore not easy to clean.

A wall table is also quite small compared to a normal table. In small flats, it can be used as a dining table or similar just like a large conventional table, but in larger flats and for several people, a conventional table is more practical.

Where and for what are wall tables most often used?

Wall tables can be used in a variety of ways. Whether in student flats to save space, as storage in an office or as a changing table for babies, wall tables are a practical alternative to normal tables in all areas.

Did you know that wall tables are particularly popular in smart flats and minimalism?

Because the tables are so multifunctional and take up little space, they are popular in minimalist homes. There, they are simply folded down when not in use, giving the room more space.

Especially in cities with small flats, this smart furniture has become indispensable.

It is also often used as a small shelf in a living room to put decorations or similar things on. But not only as decoration, but also in the kitchen as a multifunctional option as a bar table for drinks or as a shelf for glasses, food or other things, you can use it well. The folding version can also be used as a fold-out dining table in a small kitchen.

What materials are wall tables made of?

Wall tables are available in all the same materials as normal tables. There is a suitable version of the table for every style of furnishing. For example, wall tables can be made of solid wood, particle board or different types of wood such as oak or pine, either lacquered or oiled, or completely natural.

Many students in particular use wall tables in their shared flats. (Image source: Pixabay /

Wood doesn't fit in your flat? No problem. Of course, there are also tables made of metal or plastic, depending on what fits best in your flat. In this case, plastic is the easiest to clean and requires little maintenance, unlike natural, untreated wood.

How much does a wall table cost?

Wall tables come in every price range. Depending on the intended use and the customer's wishes, there are different tables at different prices.

Whether a cheaper variant for students or pupils, or a more expensive, possibly designer variant, these wall tables are available in every design and at every price.

Decision: What types of wall tables are there and which is the right one for you?

What distinguishes a folding wall table and what are its advantages and disadvantages?

Compared to other tables, a wall table offers almost only advantages. What speaks most in favour of the folding wall table is that it can be folded up and down, which makes it very space-saving and practical for small and spatially limited flats.

The stability of a wall table is indistinguishable from a conventional table thanks to the sturdy legs.

In addition, the back of a folded-up table can be used as a place for notes, pictures, etc., which creates a decorative effect instead of a clunky wooden frame.

  • Space-saving
  • Practical
  • Multifunctional
  • Permanently installed on the wall
  • Size not variable

One disadvantage to be mentioned is that you cannot change the location of the table. A wall table is bound to its place because it is fixed to the wall, unlike a conventional table.

The size of the table is also not variable. Normal conventional tables can sometimes be resized by adding an extra board. This is usually not possible with a wall table.

What distinguishes a non-folding wall table and what are its advantages and disadvantages?

One advantage of a non-folding wall table is that the space underneath the table can be used for storage. Since you don't have to make sure that you have enough space to fold it down, you can use the space variably, which is very practical in a small flat.

A non-folding wall table is also very multifunctional, as you can use it as a decorative element or as a small bar table or dining table.

  • Space underneath usable
  • Multifunctional
  • Space not variable

What speaks against such a wall table, however, is that the space is not variable. Since the table is attached to the wall, you cannot change the space at will and transform your room greatly if you do not want to reattach the attachment every time.

Buying criteria: Use these factors to compare and evaluate wall tables

In the following, we will show you which criteria you can use to compare and evaluate wall tables. This will make it easier for you to get an overview and decide on a suitable and effective product.

In summary, these are the following criteria:

  • Functionality & stability
  • Quality
  • Material & style

In the following, you can read about the respective criteria and find out why it makes sense for you to purchase a wall table according to the criteria mentioned or not.

Functionality & stability

An important criterion when buying a table is its functionality and stability. A distinction is made here between folding tables, which are attached to the wall by means of hinges, and the usual tables, which are mounted on the wall by means of angle supports. The space available in your home can help you decide.

While the folding table is better for small rooms and flats, the fixed table is more the solution for rooms that do not have space problems. If both table variations are assembled correctly and properly, the stability of the wall tables is in no way inferior to that of a normal table and they are just as resilient.

Here you should pay attention to the purpose for which the table is needed. If you only need a table for eating or for storage, you can save a little on quality. Hinges and supports that withstand less load are usually cheaper.

The more the table has to withstand and the longer it is to be in use, the higher its quality should be. Here, for example, the type of wood, the load limit of the hinges and the assembly of the supports are decisive for the quality.

Material & style

Modern, antique or country house style, there are wall tables for every taste. Since tables are not only available in furniture stores, but also from carpenters, there are no limits to the design possibilities.

Whether the table is made of wood, plastic or metal is up to the owner's taste. Likewise, different materials can be combined. For example, the support and the angle can be made of metal, while the table top is made of wood.

Since wall tables have been around ever since people settled down, they come in every style from baroque to contemporary.

Facts worth knowing about wall tables

How can you build a wall table yourself?

Anyone can build a wall table themselves. All you need is the material you want the table to be made of.

Here is an overview of the optimum table height before you start building:

Body height Table height
113 cm 52 cm
128 cm 58 cm
150 cm 66.8 cm
160 cm 70.8 cm
173 cm 76 cm
185 cm 80.8 cm

A folding wall table requires a tabletop, hinges, feet, screws, dowels and washers, which are screwed together to form the final product.

The hinges are attached to the tabletop in such a way that they can be swivelled upwards when attached to the wall. The feet are attached to the other end of the tabletop and adjusted to the length so that the table stands horizontally when folded out.

For a wall table with angle support, the tabletop and the angle support are required. Additional screws and dowels are needed for assembly. The angle support must now be mounted horizontally on the wall before the tabletop is screwed onto the mounted angle support.
